While writing my upcoming book Killing the SS: The Hunt for the Worst War Criminals in History,” I kept coming back to a simple question: how could the German people have allowed the brutal Nazi Party to seize power?

The answer is complex but hateful propaganda, similar to what we are seeing now in America, played a huge role.

A Hitler flunky named Joseph Goebbels was in charge of Nazi messaging. Using friendly newspapers and especially radio broadcasts, Goebbels demonized Nazi opponents, Jews, and other groups by portraying them as dangerous anti-German malcontents. The propaganda was vicious and nonstop, embraced by mobs of fascists who roamed the streets lashing out at the groups Goebbels targeted.

I thought of that the other day when a group of “progressives” confronted Senator Ted Cruz and his wife in a DC restaurant chanting “we believe the survivors” over and over. Some members of the mini-mob actually got into the Senator’s face, forcing him to flee the restaurant.

The liberal media, of course, barely mentioned the disturbing confrontation, instead concentrating on transmitting “misconduct” charges against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Again and again, the unsubstantiated accusations were repeated on television. Same thing on the Internet. Over and over and over. The more you say it, the more likely that people will believe it. That’s the mantra of propagandists.

Joseph Goebbels is surely not doing much smiling in hell. But if he could see the smear machine in place today in this country, he’d certainly approve. The American media traffics in ideological hatred and essentially ignores due process.

The very things that happened in World War II Germany.

Tonight on The No Spin News, we’ll continue our tough but fair analysis of the bitter Supreme Court situation. If you are not a BillOReilly.com Premium Member, I hope you will consider it.
