Democrats are doing everything they can to make sure that the focus stays on Donald Trump and the riot that happened at the Capitol on January 6^th.   If they can get a federal commission together, they can prolong the debate until 2022 when midterm elections come into play. Democrats don’t care about actually investigating what happened that day, all they care about is painting a negative picture of Republicans so they remain as the minority.
