A fascinating political showdown is underway between President Trump and Attorney General Sessions.  Mr. Trump wants control of the Russia-collusion investigation and he doesn't have it because Sessions has recused himself.  Also, the President believes the AG is dragging his feet on tracking down leakers, and probing Hillary Clinton's Russian dealings.

 

So, it is apparent that Mr. Trump would like to fire Mr. Sessions but there are two huge problems with that.

 

First, the Senate would have to approve a new Attorney General and more than a few republicans, who now support Sessions, would likely give the President a hard time.

 

Second, many conservative commentators would turn on Trump because they support Sessions.

 

If the President fires Sessions, the action will harm his administration in a big way.
