I am ready for some football!

The National Football League is supposed to begin training in the anticipation of the season, which begins in September.

But as with everything, COVID looms. Hundreds of billions of dollars are at stake so we can expect the league to do everything it can to get on the field. As far as fans in the stands—Philadelphia already says no. It will probably go city by city.

There is another big problem besides the pandemic and that is social justice.

If NFL players insist injecting politics into game days—pro-football will get hurt. Not enough to put it on the disabled list, but many fans are not going to enjoy left wing displays.

Already we’ve seen New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees castigated for saying he believes players should stand for the National Anthem.

Drew Brees actually had to apologize—why? Because most of his teammates are black and sympathize with protesting during the Anthem. Brees knew his team morale would be damaged if he didn’t back down.

There is now a tremendous peer pressure in NFL locker rooms to support the Black Lives Matter movement. If you disagree with that, trouble begins.

The NFL should have a simple rule: no politics on game day—none. During training time? Fine, tell the press anything you want. But fans want to see the game, not debate the state of the union.

Pro-football and its players should respect that.
