Success Requires Sacrifice

With two urchins graduating this spring, I’ve been talking with some of their friends who for some reason find me interesting (or at least they pretend to).

I well remember my graduations and how much fun we all had at the parties and ceremonies. That’s one thing that hasn’t changed in the USA, young people bonding over shared experience.

Like most Americans, the graduates have been shaken by Covid and the hateful culture on display. No summer of love this year. Quite the opposite.

The kids who seek my counsel are sincere because I’m not exactly Ozzie Nelson, a warm and fuzzy guy. If they have the guts to approach me, I will engage.

Mostly I tell the graduates to think about what they are good at and formulate a plan. We all have talents. No one is shut out. That’s why I believe in God.

It is the plan that is most important. Set goals, motivate yourself to accomplish. But always remember plans can change with circumstances. Be open to that.

I hope my words help. I want all honest Americans to succeed. But success requires hard work and sacrifice. And that is the essence of the plan.
