Five good books this summer are:
  • The Tin Roof Blowdown by James Lee Burke
This Dave Robicheaux novel centers around Hurricane Katrina. One of Burke's best, and he is the best fiction writer around.
  • North River by Pete Hamill
A novel about immigration during the depression. I like Hamill a lot.
  • Savage Kingdom by Benjamin Whoolley
The true story of the Jamestown settlement. A good one for those who like history.
  • 33 Questions about American History You're Not Supposed to Ask by Thomas Woods
Another history buff book, but fun to read.
  • Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right by Bernard Goldberg
Bernie has a unique view of the country and he's entertaining.
I am also re-reading some of the early Spenser for Hire books by Robert Parker. He's not as good a writer as Burke, but the books are great for the beach and vacation.

Finally, if you haven't read my novel Those Who Trespass, check it out. I believe you'll find it a good summer diversion.
