Bill O’Reilly’s ‘Legends & Lies: Into The West’ to be Published by Henry Holt April 7

Companion Book to Fox News Channel's 10-Part History Docudrama of the Wild West

Bill O’Reilly, author of the international bestselling history series that includes “Killing Patton,” “Killing Jesus,” “Killing Kennedy” and “Killing Lincoln,” and anchor of the number one rated Fox News program, “The O’Reilly Factor,” is creating a new enterprise, “Legends & Lies: Into the West,” with a multi-part docu-style series on Fox News Channel and a companion book from his publisher Henry Holt. The acquisition of the book was announced by Stephen Rubin, Holt’s president and publisher. Publication is set for April 7. O’Reilly is the executive producer of the Fox News Channel program which is being produced by Warm Springs Productions and debuts April 12.

“Legends & Lies” will be written by bestselling author David Fisher and Bill O’Reilly will pen the introduction. It will be lavishly illustrated with photographs and will recount the tales of the greatest outlaws and heroes of America’s Wild West, including Jesse James, Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid, Davy Crockett, Wild Bill Hickok and the real Lone Ranger. Generations of Americans have grown up on TV shows, movies and books about these legends. But what really happened in the Wild West? The Bill O’Reilly produced Fox series and the accompanying book will uncover the truth, which is sometimes heroic, sometimes brutal and bloody, but always riveting.

Holt is the publisher of O’Reilly’s four books in his international, multimillion selling history series. All of the books in the “Killing” series have been instant no. 1 New York Times best sellers. There are more than 12 million in print worldwide across all formats: print, audio and in young readers’ editions, which include “Lincoln’s Last Days,” “Kennedy’s Last Days,” “The Last Days of Jesus,” and “Hitler’s Last Days” published by Henry Holt for Young Readers. The books have also been adapted into original movies for the National Geographic Channel.

O’Reilly’s previous New York Times bestsellers include many other no. 1 bestselling books in the categories of memoir and politics, such as the no. 1 bestseller “A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity.” He is the recipient of many journalism awards, including three Emmys. He holds master’s degrees from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and from Boston University.

Rubin acquired world rights, audio and first serial from Paul Fedorko at Bienstock, A United Talent Agency Company in New York.  “Legends & Lies” will be edited by Gillian Blake, Holt’s editor in chief, who also works on the “Killing” series.
