O’Reilly Interviews Adam Carolla, plus talks Russia sanctions and the border wall

Today’s episode is another can’t miss edition of the No Spin News, where Bill O’Reilly discusses Russian sanctions, immigration reform, and taxes. Adam Carolla also joins the program for a lengthy interview about insanity on college campuses.

Russia Sanctions

Today President Trump signed into law sanctions that punishes Russia for interfering in the U.S. election.  President Trump reportedly believes the sanctions make it tougher for him to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump in the end signed the sanctions because it had enough Congressional votes to override a veto.

Bill said he approved of the sanctions.

“You mess with our democracy, we’re going to hurt you,” Bill said. “Putin intruded on our election. He’s got to be held accountable on that.”

President Trump’s Immigration Plan

President Trump today endorsed an immigration plan that would prioritize skilled immigrants over others.

Bill said the legislation was likely dead on arrival.

“This is not going to fly,” Bill said. “There’re enough Republicans in the Senate [who will oppose the policy] that they’re going to kill this.”

Other stories of note

  • Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wants Democrats to oppose Trump’s tax cut plans the same way they opposed the Obamacare repeal. Bill thinks more Democrats will side with Republicans on tax reform and it will ultimately pass.
  • Bill recommended that his listeners read Maine Governor Paul LePage’s op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today about Obamacare.
  • A new Rasmussen poll says 56% of Americans now oppose a border wall. Bill said the poll was misleading because he believes strongly that Americans want better security on the border, even if it’s not a physical wall. “Don’t worry about that poll, it really doesn’t matter.”

Adam Carolla Interview

The story of the day, Bill said, comes from an article in Psychology Today that says an increasing number of young Americans feel a great sense of entitlement.  Here is an excerpt from the article:  "Large amounts of young people are developing an entitlement complex.  The psychological trend comes from the belief that you are superior to others and more deserving of certain things."

Bill spoke at length about that issue with author and radio host Adam Carolla, who actually testified last week at a House hearing investigating politically correct madness on American campuses.  "I think our big problem," Carolla began, "is that we decided that children are the future, which they are.  But we adults are the present, and the administration and faculty of these colleges have to start acting like adults.  Bad things happen any time you don't set limits on people who aren't capable of setting limits on themselves.  Students are spinning out of control and adults are not taking control."

Bill theorized that left-wing campus bullies are infused with both hatred and fear:  "They fear that they might have to be held accountable or they may have to work hard.  The fear turns into hatred and the hatred turns into destruction, which is the cycle of events we are witnessing.  These people are peddling a view of the world that is so destructive, yet they are proud of it."

Carolla also raised the importance of shame and inferiority:  "Most young boys would love to be the captain and the star of their football team.  When they can't do it they decide that the jocks are bad people and need to be brought down.  But if they had a magic wand they would rather be captain of the football team."  Before signing off, Carolla reminded everyone that his very popular podcasts are available on AdamCarolla.com.

Premium Members then joined the fray with their questions and opinions.  In answer to one PM's question about Senator John McCain's vote against repealing ObamaCare, Bill said this:  "I understand why Senator McCain is angry, but you have to think about the folks and all these people getting hurt under ObamaCare."

Another PM's letter about addiction being a disease elicited this exposition from Bill:  "I cede that addiction is a disease in the sense that certain people have a predilection to become hooked.  I'm one of them because in my family we've had a lot of alcoholism.  Therefore I don't drink or take drugs or do destructive stuff to my body.  So, yes, it's a disease, but it's a choice.  There has to be an element of personal responsibility, especially in this era of instant gratification that makes it far easier to use drugs."

Check back tomorrow - same time, same place - when the No Spin News will include an in-depth and entertaining discussion with Dennis Miller about tax fairness.
