O'Reilly on the Shooting in Las Vegas, the Intense Story in Puerto Rico, & NFL Protest Anger
October 2, 2017

Bill began Monday's No Spin News with the dreadful news out of Las Vegas, where a 64-year-old Nevada man opened fire and killed at least 59 concert-goers, wounding more than 500 more.  It was the worst mass shooting in American history.

"We have a problem in America," Bill began, "but the problem is freedom.  We are the freest people on the planet and people have the right to arm themselves.  At times, there is an abuse of that freedom and all of us suffer because of our rights.  This was a crazy guy who was never involved with the cops, but he's evil!  It is so depressing to see this kind of a thing take place."

Bill took Hillary Clinton to the proverbial woodshed for her decision to immediately call for gun control.  "She politicized this incident while the bodies are in the morgue.  Couldn't you wait one day?  You are not an elected official, Hillary Clinton, you are hawking a book, so what is the value of you blaming the NRA?  President Trump, to his credit, did not politicize the incident.  The essential thing you should understand as Americans is that even if gun control takes root it's not going to stop this.  There are about 300-million guns in circulation in the USA."

Bill then welcomed Las Vegas resident Bob Massi, an attorney and talk show host, who provided an on-the-scene account from his home town.  "Everybody here is very somber," he began, "and there is that disbelief that it happened here.  To now have the largest massacre is very horrifying to us, it's very quiet and everyone is walking around trying to figure out how this could happen.  It's just an example of evil."  Massi also speculated as to how the city can recover:  "People will always come to Las Vegas, but this will strike fear into everyone.  All the hotels will revamp their security protocols and this will take time.  There will be a process that will take time and we are going to take a hit because we depend on the gaming industry."

Turning to Puerto Rico and the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Bill lamented that San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz is now garnering headlines by going after President Trump and the administration.  "The problem in Puerto Rico is that there is not an infrastructure in place to get the supplies to the folks," he said, "so the people in the outlying areas are not getting the food and water and supplies that are sitting in San Juan.  But the mayor, a liberal Democrat, decides to attack the president, saying he didn't do for Puerto Rico what he did for Houston and Florida.  I believe she is a political zealot who is trying to make points by diminishing President Trump."

Senator Bernie Sanders, meanwhile, doubled down on Mayor Cruz' perfidy and actually implied that President Trump is acting out of racial animus.  "That's just vile," Bill declared.  "Senator Sanders is accusing the president of racism because the people in Puerto Rico are not white for the most part.  He should be ashamed of himself!  I'm not sticking up for Donald Trump, I'm sticking up for discourse in America.  I'm tired of this 'you're a racist' stuff."

Moving to the ongoing National Football League controversy, Bill observed that the league, its players, and its owners may be gradually backing away from the protests.  "The people have spoken," he said, "and the NFL's popularity has declined. About 65% of the folks don't want the flag to be disrespected and the league is very worried that this will translate into a loss of money.  The league is in trouble and the fans are angry because these players are disrespecting their country.  And they should be angry."

In their emails and messages, many Premium Members continued to focus on the NFL and the flag.  One PM suggested that the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited in every public classroom every day.  "Our very left-wing academics don't like the country," Bill replied, "so they don't want to hear about anything that boosts the country.  That's up to you guys, you have to go and confront your local school boards."

Finally, Bill advised everyone that the No Spin News will move to a studio setting Tuesday, so you can expect a coat and tie tomorrow instead of the more casual look.  We'll see you then, and you can certainly feel free to dress casually.
