O'Reilly on the Texas Church Shooting, Trump's Accomplishments; Interview with Michael Reagan
November 6, 2017

"Another black day for America!"  That's how Bill began Monday's No Spin News, speaking of course about the horrible story out of Texas, where a maniac shot up a church and killed more than two dozen innocent, churchgoing citizens.

"It's the same old story," Bill groused.  "This is a ne'er-do-well guy who had nothing going for him.  He got a dishonorable discharge from the Air Force for beating up his wife and child, he was just a total loser.  These people don't believe in anything, this guy espoused atheism.  And when life goes bad, they decide to check out and take as many people as possible with them."

Bill challenged Democrats who espouse gun control to do more than just talk:  "Write something up, Chuck Schumer, mark up a bill and let us see what you want.  I don't believe any gun control would stop a guy like this or a terrorist.  There are so many guns all over the world and if you want to get a gun you'll get one.  If you think it's a panacea to ban guns, it isn't!"  Bill also pointed out that, despite these high-profile incidents, there has been a dramatic decline in violent crimes over the past twenty years in the United States.

Turning to politics, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that most Americans feel that President Trump has few accomplishments.  Even though the poll can be criticized for including more Democrats than Republicans, Bill also put some of the blame on the president:  "Donald Trump has accomplished two major things," he declared.  "First, he has lifted the economy so that the people feel it's on the right track.  Second, in nine months he has decimated ISIS, while in eight years Barack Obama didn't dent ISIS.  Those are two pretty good accomplishments, but why isn't Trump tweeting about that?  He tweets about the NFL and CNN, but you don't see tweets on his two big accomplishments!"

Michael Reagan, son of the late president, joined Bill to compare and contrast his dad and President Trump.  "My father coined 'Let's Make America Great Again,'" Reagan began, "and Donald Trump picked up on that.  They both went about it different ways, but their vision of making America great again is the same.  Trump sometimes makes Reaganites absolutely cringe with his tweeting and the way he treats people.  My father worked through Congress to get things accomplished, and Donald Trump will also have to try to work through Congress to get things done.  He should have apologized to John McCain and invited him to the White House to dinner."

Reagan predicted that President Trump's proposed tax reform will run into some serious political roadblocks.  "I think this has a lot of trouble," he said, "because it seems to punish the high-tax blue states like California and New York and New Jersey.  There is going to be trouble getting this passed as it stands right now."

Bill moved to another poll that measures the approval ratings of various world leaders.  "Putin is at 82% in Russia," he reported, "because if you don't like him you go to Siberia."  On the other end of the scale, only 3% of Brazilians approve of President Michel Temer.  Bill observed, "I don't think he's running for reelection."

There was also a very interesting item from over the weekend.  "Vin Scully, the greatest baseball announcer ever," Bill reported, "says he will no longer watch the NFL because of the protests.  I know Mr. Scully a little and he is a great guy.  A lot of my friends don't watch the NFL and I don't watch as much as I used to.  You have to respect the flag, even though the nation is not perfect."

In their emails and message board postings, several Premium Members expressed their outrage over Bowe Bergdahl, the deserter who will not spend any time in prison.  "I'm not surprised," Bill said, "although I would have probably given him 15 years.  To give him nothing is a very liberal sentence.  George Washington would have hanged Bowe Bergdahl, no doubt about it, but we live in a far different age."

When another PM asked about Bill's mantra "Take Your Country Back," he elaborated on just what it means:  "Take your country back from the dishonest media and the politicians who want to change everything and don't think we are a noble nation.  Those are the threats, they are in business to uproot the entire nation."
