O'Reilly on Taxes, the Press, and Vacation Advice for Trump
August 3, 2017

On today’s No Spin News, Bill O’Reilly interviews Dennis Miller, explains why Democrats really oppose tax reform, discusses the podcast’s future, calls the press “disgusting and appalling,” and gives some vacation advice to President Trump

Why Democrats Really Oppose Tax Reform

Bill began the program by describing the importance of a tax cut for working Americans and for corporations. A tax cut for working-class people would put much needed money in their pockets, and a corporate tax cut would lead to more jobs.

“But this isn’t about that for the Democrats,” Bill said. “Because they know if they can kill tax cuts, Trump is done. If you don't get healthcare reform done, and you don’t get tax cut reform done, over.”

Because of this dynamic, no substantive debate will take place, and it’ll be all about power politics.

Bill called the situation a “con,” because Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says the Democrats won’t vote for any tax cut that raises the deficit, and Democrats refuse to cut any spending on social programs.

According to Bill, Democrats are “petrified” of Schumer because he will withhold campaign money from them if they vote against the party line.

“It’s a facade,” Bill said. “This isn’t about you, how much money you have in your pocket, how much security you can provide your family, and the educational things you may be able to save for, it’s not about that. It’s about destroying Trump.”

Bill said if Trump can’t get a tax cut for working Americans, his presidency will be all but over.

“We’re living in a dysfunctional country where our elected representatives in Congress aren’t looking out for you,” Bill said. “They’re not voting what’s best for the folks. They’re playing a terrible, horrible political game.”

Dennis Miller Interview

Bill then brought Dennis Miller on the program to discuss the current state of politics.

Miller said that despite the fact Republicans control the presidency and Congress, the Democrats are really running the country.

“I’ve never seen them in more control than this,” Miller said. “They dictate everything and they’re taking a huge chunk out of Trump.”

Miller then joked that since only about 50% of the country pays income taxes, those that do pay should sponsor individuals who do not.

“One-on-one sponsorship where you get to have breakfast with them once a month,” Miller said. “Naturally, you’d have to agree beforehand to pick up the tab on breakfast. If they’re a good person, like I said, your heart is warmed. If they’re gaming [the system], you should go back and say, the person you’ve given me to sponsor is not doing his part. And I think that might solve a lot of things.”

Miller joked it would almost be like having a welfare parole agent.

“I always think about the poor people who do legitimately deserve welfare and entitlements who are getting screwed out of a bigger portion of what they deserve because there are so many hacks who are gaming it,” Miller said.

Bill also agreed that some vulnerable people in difficult circumstances deserve government assistance, but far too many people were taking advantage of entitlement programs.

“But what we have in America now is an entitlement culture,” Bill said. “Adam Carolla and I discussed that yesterday where a lot of people feel, look, if I don’t have it, even though I didn’t really go to school, didn’t really work hard, never had a plan, and smoked pot all day long or drink gin, that's okay, because Miller and O’Reilly, they’ve got to give me some more money, because that’s the system, and that’s what I’m entitled to, that’s what’s fair.”

Miller added that he was fine with the current tax structure “as long as somebody starts spending it effectively.”

Bill’s Future in Media

After saying goodbye to Miller, Bill said the podcast will continue all August and would remain the primary platform to find Bill’s views for the foreseeable future.

Bill then teased a special surprise with the podcast on Wednesday.

“I’m going to need your input,” Bill said.

Bill said the podcast has doubled in audience size in the last three months.

“Word has spread that if you want a good encapsulation of the news in 30 minutes and you can listen to it whenever you want, this is the place to be,” Bill said. “I think in the next six months or so this podcast and the No Spin News will start to significantly impact what’s happening in the country, as we did on television.”

Bill then said he wasn’t sure if he will return to television.

“I have a lot of offers, luckily,” Bill said. “I’m going to look at it in the fall, early September we’ll start to look, see what’s around.”

Bill said he wasn’t in a hurry because “it’s a nasty, dirty game.”

“We’re not going to sit around and take any crap any more,” Bill said. “I made a mistake in not confronting things head on. I can’t really explain why now, but some day it’ll come out. But it’s not going to happen again.”

President Trump Needs a Vacation

Bill then said President Trump needs a vacation.

“I’ve known the man for 30 years, I’ve never seen him take a vacation,” Bill said.

Bill said President Trump likes to play golf and go out to dinner, but otherwise does not have a recreational hobby like water activities or skiing.

“He’s not a vacation kind of guy,” Bill said. “He needs one. Play a lot of golf Mr. President or whatever, you need to get away from this.”

Advice to President Trump on the Russia Investigation

Bill then gives President Trump the advice to no longer respond to updates and leaks regarding the Russia investigation.

“Just let your attorneys handle it,” Bill said. “They’re never going to stop. They, the Trump haters, the people that want him out of office, never going to stop.”

Bill said if Trump is forced to discuss the issue, he said the president should go into the Oval Office, turn on the cameras, and directly address the American people because he can’t get a fair shake from the press.

“I know what’s happening here with the press,” Bill said. “And I think it’s just disgusting and appalling. And I’ve never seen anything like this in 42 years in this business. ”

Bill noted that Bill and Hillary Clinton have been hammered by the press, and President Obama only received tough coverage from one outlet.

But President Trump has to personally avoid the press because it has become a profit-seeking industry to be unfair to him.

“If you want power and if you’re a person like me in the public eye who’s controversial, you’re going to get it,” Bill said. “But this constant industry that’s been created on MSNBC, CNN, it’s an industry now, it’s a moneymaker. Okay, once that happens, you have to walk away. You have to get away. Especially if you’re president because you’ve got important things to do. You’ve got a lot of things to do for this country. And this is a distraction.”

Bill also advised President Trump not to worry about some of his poor poll numbers because he has a new chief of staff, General John Kelly, who is reorganizing the White House.

“Please listen to him,” Bill said. “You don’t have to do everything he says, but consider him. Alright, don’t respond to the Russia stuff and get the tax cuts passed.

“If I were [Trump], I’d take off as much time as I can, regroup, reorganize, re-strategize, you’ve got to get that tax cut passed.”

Premium Member Mail

Bill ended the program by responding the emails from Premium Members. Here are the highlights.

  • Bill gives President Trump credit for taking a risk by installing Gen. John Kelly as chief of staff because that empowers Gen. Kelly to make or break the presidency.
  • Bill noted that if Kelly resigns or is forced out, that will be the end of President Trump’s power as president, because, according to Bill, it’s possible to be a powerless president. “If he loses his party, he’s done,” Bill said. “If Kelly goes out and says, hey, this is crazy and Donald Trump can’t run the government, it is over.”
  • Bill explains the difference between the White House communications director and the press secretary by stating the communications director is in charge of White House messaging by overseeing the press secretary, among other responsibilities.
  • Bill says the Portland illegal immigrant who was deported 20 times yet found a way back into the country and raped two women last month would have been stopped by Kate’s Law.
  • Bill calls MS-13 a drug gang that’s “very dangerous, very violent, and Trump’s dealing with them, which is a good thing.”
  • Bill says he’s still monitoring the story in Minnesota where a police officer originally from Somalia shot and killed an Australian woman who reported an assault. Bill is waiting for the outcome of the investigation.
  • Bill says the British press is just like the American media and does not give President Trump a fair shot because of its liberal biases.
