California’s Civil War

California’s second-largest county, San Diego, voted Tuesday to officially support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the state’s so-called sanctuary law that limits police cooperation with federal immigration agents.

The decision by San Diego County’s all-Republican Board of Supervisors voted 3-1, with one member absent. The region of 3 million residents that borders Mexico joins neighboring Orange County and at least nine other Orange County cities that have passed anti-sanctuary resolutions or voted to support the lawsuit filed last month by President Donald Trump’s administration.

California Gov. Jerry Brown spoke to the National Press Club on Tuesday, April 17. Brown said the immigration debate "has become “an inflammatory football that very low-life politicians like to exploit." He delivered a blunt message to the Republicans he blames for the country’s dysfunctional immigration system. Brown said of the country’s undocumented immigrants, “I think it’s time to just chill, recognize the fact that they’re here.” Brown went on to say, “With all the other talk and noise about the border, the fact is America has 10 to 11 million people that are here,” he continued. “And they’re human beings, they have families, it’s very important that they be integrated in a humane, intelligent way.”

Judicial Watch Sues for Documents Related to Comey’s Book

Government watchdog Judicial Watch has issued a lawsuit against the FBI for documents related to fired Director James Comey's new book, A Higher Loyalty.

On Tuesday April 17th, Judicial Watch announced that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Justice Department for FBI prepublication review and other records about former Director James Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership. Judicial Watch filed suit after the Justice Department failed to produce any records in response to a March 16, 2018, FOIA request for the following things: All records of communications between the FBI and former FBI director James Comey relating to an upcoming book to be authored by James Comey and all records, including but not limited to forms completed by former FBI director James Comey relating to the requirement for publication review by the FBI of any book to be authored by Comey with the intent to be published or otherwise publicly available.

Judicial watch has issued another six lawsuits against the Department of Justice for documents about his book deal and memos Comey wrote after conversations with President Donald Trump. Additionally, they've requested information about the former director's mishandling and leaking of classified information to the press through a friend. As noted by Judicial Watch, Comey reportedly received a $2 million advance for his book. The usual process for publishing as a current or former government official requires an individual to "submit the entire transcript for pre-publication review."

Report: Secretary of State Nominee Pompeo Met with NoKo's Kim

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 that CIA Director Mike Pompeo met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The top-secret trip took place during Easter weekend ahead of a possible summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un later this year to discuss Pyongyang's nuclear program. The CIA, White House and North Korean government all refused to comment to the Washington Post.

Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Tuesday, President Trump appeared to allude to the extraordinary face-to-face meeting between Kim Jong Un and Mike Pompeo when he said the U.S. has had direct talks with North Korea "at very high levels." The President didn't further elaborate. However, President Trump has said that he expects to meet with the North Korean leader in early June, if not sooner.

David Hogg calls for boycotts of Blackrock, Vanguard Group

David Hogg is calling for a boycott of two major investment management companies over their ties to gun manufacturers. Hogg, who has become a prominent gun control activist after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February, urged his social media followers to make their feelings known to BlackRock and Vanguard.

BlackRock and Vanguard, along with several other companies, have faced scrutiny over their investments in gun manufacturers in the wake of the shooting. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) earlier this year named them in a letter calling for gun company shareholders to demand change in the arms industry after the shooting.

BlackRock declined to comment on Hogg's tweets, but pointed to the action the company has taken in recent months on gun issues. Earlier this month, BlackRock said it will start offering gun-free retirement funds in response to consumer demand, as well as additional funds that do not include gun stocks. The company has also engaged in policy discussions with weapons manufacturers and distributors.

Hogg was the focus of national media attention earlier this month after he sparked an advertiser boycott of Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

AP’s Latest History Textbook Says Christians And Conservatives Are Racists

An Advanced Placement honors U.S. History textbook slated for distribution in 2019 reportedly contains anti-Trump bias and says Christians and conservatives are racists and xenophobes.

The textbook, published by British-owned Pearson Education, and authored by New York University professor James Fraser, is currently being pitched to public high schools in an effort to get them to buy the latest edition.

According to the bio, Fraser wrote the book to “help make U.S. History courses more lively, with a focus on the agency of everyday Americans of many different communities, times, and places.”

Radio host Alex Clark of WNOW’s “The Joe and Alex Show” posted photos of the book and its contents on Twitter after publisher Pearson Education sent samples of the book to public schools to encourage school administrations to purchase it.

Mail Time!

  • Hi Bill, what I don't understand is why Daniels is not considered a blackmailer. If you have a consensual fling and then demand money 10 years later from the former partner at a time when going public will hurt their career or family, isn't that blackmail? I am so surprised she can do that... and no one says that's vile, if not illegal. Keep up the good work. Only source that's fair and reasonable.
  • Bill, got my Take Your Country Back bumper stickers. Proudly displayed them on the back window of my car near my United States Air Force sticker. Thanks for all you do.
