KATE'S LAW PASSES THE HOUSE!

Bill kicked off Thursday with the expected, but still outstanding, news that the House of Representatives has finally passed a version of Kate's Law.  It mandates harsh punishment for illegal alien felons who return to the United States after being deported.

The common sense law even inspired a small measure of bipartisanship, with 24 Democrats voting in favor.  "Only one Republican voted against the law," Bill reported, "and that man is Justin Amash from Grand Rapids, Michigan.  All the people in his district should be looking to get him out of there."

Bill also expressed chagrin that mainstream news outlets were mostly quiet on the vote.  "Kate's Law was overwhelmed by the Trump tweets and I couldn't find any coverage.  The left-wing press does not want any of this immigration stuff, which is why you had 167 pinheads who voted against a measure that would prohibit violent criminals from coming into the country.  Those people do not want to protect you!"

As most of you know, Bill was instrumental in getting the law proposed and passed.  "Kate's Law was named by me," he explained, "after I was so outraged by the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco.  That alleged killer, a Mexican drug dealer, was deported five times and had seven felony convictions in the USA.  It will be interesting to see how Fox News handles my participation in the law."  The bill now moves to the Senate, where liberal Democrats will be under pressure to vote against the legislation, which requires 60 votes to pass the upper chamber.

Also on Thursday, the House passed a bill that will punish sanctuary cities if they fail to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.  As with Kate's Law, the vast majority of House Democrats voted against the law.  "You used to be able to reason with liberal people," Bill groused, "but not anymore.  If Trump likes it, they oppose it."

Bill turned to the media firestorm that was ignited when President Trump sent out Thursday morning tweets insulting MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski, co-host of Morning Joe.  That show has slammed and hammered and slandered Donald Trump for months; he hit back hard, calling her "low IQ" and accusing her of having a facelift.  "Nobody knows who she is," Bill said, "but Trump is crazed by these media people who attack him.  If I was advising Donald Trump, I would advise him against punching down.  He doesn't gain anything."

Bill theorized that President Trump's inflammatory words may be part of a larger plan:  "He has a strategy to decouple his supporters from the media so that it's 'us against them.'  He's exacerbating the fissure that was always there.  His base, the people who love him, are excited by that, but you have to be artful in the wording.  He could have said that the Morning Joe folks are irresponsible and their ratings reflect that.  Another downside is that on a day like today he obscured a very important vote and made Ms. Brzezinski an object of sympathy."

On an issue of more substance, the Senate may still vote on their health care bill Friday, but it is increasingly unlikely.  Bill advised Premium Members to visit this website Friday for an intriguing interview with John Stossel, who will put forth his radical libertarian view of government involvement in health care.  You may be stunned by his radical free market prescriptions.

In their daily email comments and questions, Premium Members opined on the Senate health care proposal and, of course, Kate's Law.  "My original vision for Kate's Law was a five-year mandatory sentence," Bill said in response to one question, "but this one has no mandatory because that would have given people cover to vote against it.  This bill has a sentence of up to ten years and you suspect most judges will hit offenders hard.  The value to law enforcement makes this version of Kate's Law worthwhile."

Before signing off for the long weekend, Bill strenuously insisted that hot dogs should always be grilled, not boiled.  Sounds mundane, but who knows?  Perhaps "grilled, not boiled" will eventually be as memorable a phrase as "shaken, not stirred."

Don't forget to log in for the captivating conversation with John Stossel, which will be up on the site Friday.  Bill also advised viewers to check in over the weekend for some "Best Of" webcasts, which will be available for everyone, not just Premium Members.   Happy Fourth, everyone.
