POLITICAL VIOLENCE, THE DAY AFTER

One day after 66-year-old James Hodgkinson fired dozens of rounds at Republican members of Congress in Virginia, Bill opined on the dead shooter and the heroics of the Capitol Police.  "Obviously he was demented," Bill declared, "but that doesn't excuse a purely evil act.  The really compelling thing is that if the two Capitol Police officers weren't there, you would have had a massacre.  This guy was bent on killing as many Republicans as he could.  He was a progressive, far-left loon and this is how he acted out."

As for the coverage, the reliably misguided New York Times opened itself up to a lawsuit from Sarah Palin by stating that she inspired political violence in the Gabby Giffords shooting six years ago.  That canard has been disproven beyond a doubt, but the Times still ran with that editorial opinion.  "This is the kind of hateful stuff we see all the time," Bill groused, "and I also saw a lot of it on TV last night.  I have very little respect for 80% of broadcast journalists, which is a big number.  If the roles had been reversed and a Trump supporter had shot at Democrats, Donald Trump would have been directly implicated by the media and everybody knows it."

Bill reluctantly predicted that political violence is likely to continue, partly because of technology:  "There was always hatred between the parties, but now you can immediately access the hate.  Social media numbs people and mainstreams the hate.  I have seen the most vile stuff, there are many sick people, and the Internet gives them the power to talk to other sick people.  Lee Harvey Oswald was isolated, but today he could talk with thousands of other like-minded people."

Moving to another major story, The Washington Post has reported that special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the possibility that President Trump obstructed justice.  "Did anybody not think that Mueller would not take a look at that?" Bill asked rhetorically.  "Anyone with a brain knew that Mueller would have to look at how President Trump handled the Flynn situation.  Last night MSNBC left the story of the shooting to lead with this story, declaring that the president is 'under criminal investigation.'  But everybody knew this would be a line of questioning for Robert Mueller."  Bill expressed confidence that Mueller will do an honest job, largely in order to maintain his own impeccable reputation as a straight shooter.

On the subject of Donald Trump and the many accusations, Bill made a declaration and a vow:  "I'm so disgusted by the dishonest media and the hate-Trump movement.  If Donald Trump does something wrong I will let it be known, but what's happening is morally wrong and I will use this forum to fight the immorality and dishonesty."

In other news, the Senate has overwhelmingly endorsed a measure that will extend sanctions on Russia, which Bill heartily endorsed:  "I would have voted yes on sanctions because I believe Russia is bad."  Also, he asked viewers to keep Congressman Steve Scalise, who remains in critical condition after being shot in Wednesday's rampage, in their thoughts and prayers.

In response to emails from Premium Members, Bill theorized that would-be killer James Hodgkinson was almost surely a lone wolf and not a member of some conspiracy.  He also reiterated the Russians did not change any votes in the presidential election and that the Mueller investigation will divert even more time and attention from President Trump's political agenda.

Finally, at least one viewer opined that the podcast might be greatly improved with more appearances from Holli, the very adorable Corgi pup.  Log on and click in tomorrow for a special Friday edition of The No Spin News.
