O'Reilly on Jared Kushner and Trump; Interview on Media Bias
July 24, 2017

Bill began Monday's No Spin News with his analysis of Jared Kushner's appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee.  Donald Trump's close adviser and son-in-law told the panel that neither he nor anyone else, to his knowledge, colluded with Russia to affect the presidential election.

"He looks like he's 18 years old," Bill observed, "and there's no reason not to believe him.  If you were Putin and you wanted to undermine the American election, is Jared Kushner where you're going?  I don't think so.  This is very bad news for CNN and MSNBC, but I can almost guarantee you that Jared Kushner did not collude with anybody to do anything.  Paul Manafort could be a different story, he was making a lot of money over there and you have to look at him."  Bill advised President Trump to "step back and allow the crazy anti-Trump press to run wild because they'll look foolish."

Bill also revealed that former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice spoke to the same committee last Friday.  "Nobody knew anything about this," he reported, "she just slipped in and out with very little coverage.  There were no leaks, but I guarantee you there will be leaks on Kushner because all the leaks are designed to hurt President Trump.  They're leaking to an anti-Trump press, primarily the New York Times and the Washington Post.  Everybody can say anything and it's been proven beyond doubt that the hate-Trump media wants him out!"

For more on that subject of media bias, Bill welcomed Fordham University communications professor Dr. Paul Levinson, author of a new book called "Fake News in Real Context."  "The situation is now not much worse than it ever was," Levinson asserted.  "Most people agreed that the New York Times didn't do a good job of reporting in the run-up to the Iraq war and they didn't do a good job reporting about Hillary Clinton's emails.  But Trump and his supporters go way too far when they say 'fake news, fake news, fake news.'  Anything they don't like is 'fake news.'"

"The New York Times is now an ideological concern," Bill countered, "they don't even care about the truth.  They don't track down sources, they just print."  But Levinson replied, "You have to admit that the New York Times and the Washington Post were correct when they reported that there was some Russian involvement.  The media have been doing a good job, but not a perfect job."

When Bill pithily asserted that "CNN hates Trump," Levinson begged to differ.  "CNN doesn't hate Trump," he said, "and I don't know of a single instance where MSNBC made up a story about Trump.  MSNBC and CNN and the New York Times have multiple sources.  I watch all three cable networks and they all have voices from both sides."  Bill reiterated that CNN and MSNBC are totally unfair and will say almost anything, as long as the story damages Trump.  "You cannot use anonymous sources as fact," Bill declared, "because it violates every journalistic tenet."

Dr. Levinson and Bill, after a very spirited discussion, parted on good terms and agreed only on one thing, namely that they will continue to disagree on just about everything.

Bill turned to health care and President Trump's Monday speech, in which he again beseeched Congress to repeal ObamaCare:  "All of this is an attempt to persuade Republican senators to vote for whatever Mitch McConnell puts in front of them Tuesday.  But you're never going to get Rand Paul to vote for anything and John McCain is now out of action.  President Trump is frustrated and the Republican Party is in disarray, which is going to hurt them in 2018."

In a horrible, unspeakable human tragedy in San Antonio, a tractor-trailer ferrying 40 or so illegal aliens across the Mexican border turned into a death trap.  There was no food, no water, no air conditioning, and ten of the illegal immigrants died.  "The reason you don't want an open border is because of this," Bill stated, "because of the exploitation of these poor people.  It's an awful story."

Meanwhile, in England, where the government runs pretty much everything, a 5-year-old girl was nabbed by a modern-day Sherlock Holmes for illegal selling lemonade.  "Some government pinhead shut down her stand," Bill groused, "and fined her family more than $200.  Can you imagine this?  This shows you that when the government runs the show there will be oppression and unintended consequences."

Premium Members wrote in with some of their questions and opinions.  One PM admitted that she is increasingly agreeing with Dennis Miller that our nation has been lost to liberalism and political correctness.  "You should still remain active because you love your country," Bill advised her, "and you should enjoy yourself as much as you can."  Bill concluded and affirmed, "I'm not giving up, I'm in!"

On that positive note, log in tomorrow for another edition of No Spin News, which will include the always entertaining and informative Bernard McGuirk.  We're almost tempted to give away a free book to anyone who doesn't laugh out loud during McGuirk's interview.  Almost tempted, but not quite.  See you Tuesday.
