Sessions in Session; What on Earth is "The Resistance?"
June 13, 2017

Tuesday's No Spin News began with Bill's analysis of Attorney General Jeff Sessions' sometimes-fiery testimony, during which he sparred with Democratic Senators about alleged Russian contacts and other issues.

"He's a very disciplined guy," Bill observed of Sessions.  "His agenda was to protect himself and he did that, they didn't lay a glove on him.  Democratic senators wanted to know what President Trump said to him and Sessions said, 'I'm not going to tell you that, no Cabinet member would because there is a privacy issue.'"

Bill characterized the hearing as a "hate-Trump fest" and predicted that the anti-Trump forces will certainly accuse Sessions of obfuscation.  "Senator Cotton of Arkansas made the strongest point," he added, "namely that after six months of this investigation there has not been one shred of evidence, not one fact, linking the Trump campaign to the Russians.  If something had happened, it would have surfaced by now, but the Trump-haters want to divert him from doing the business of the nation and they'll keep the story alive as long as possible."

Looking ahead, Bill theorized that the anti-Trump forces will never give up, even if they have to change tactics and shift the subject away from Russia.  They are the self-proclaimed "resistance," who are intent on destroying the Trump administration.  "They are resisting you, the American voter," Bill declared, "because they are resisting accepting the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.  They do not accept what the American people did on Election Day.  They are also resisting policies and any changes to the gains that the politically correct movement has made."

Elaborating on that subject, Bill spoke about his own experience with the PC crowd that dominates our mainstream media and universities:  "If you are not with the orthodoxy, you are going to get attacked.  I put up with that for more than 20 years and finally the organizations allied against me attacked our sponsors."  He concluded that the resistance "is against equal treatment for all Americans, they are against capitalism, and they are against people who support the police."  He lamented, "These people have damaged the country enormously and it's a frightening thing."

Bill then introduced his conversation with Dennis Miller, alias The D-Man and The Sage of Southern California, who called in Monday to survey the current political scene.  Miller also tore apart the "resistance" movement that objects to anything said and done by Donald Trump.

"You know what I've told you, Billy," he began.  "I stay in the compound and occasionally I put on an incognito outfit and go out for some Mint Milanos, so I don't run into people out here.  But as far as the resistance goes, I used to find it merely irksome, but now it's become unhinged.  We live in the era of violent pacifists and malevolent do-gooders."

Miller agreed that the Trump-loathers will never, ever give up, whatever the results of this ongoing Russia investigation (or "matter.")  "Even Chris Matthews has deemed the 'Russian collusion' thing dead," Miller observed, "so I thought that maybe now they'll start saying Trump is an ISIS fighter.  But then I realized that they can't say he's an ISIS fighter because they'd then have to give him a complete pass."

Bill suggested that the "resistance" people, despite their objection to the Second Amendment, may be shooting itself in the foot:  "This will make more people vote for Donald Trump.  They're driving people in the middle over to Trump's camp, but he has to deliver on tax cuts and health care."

Miller then turned to last weekend's Tony Awards, where Broadway performers proudly displayed their anti-Trump bona fides.  "I spoke with someone who talks to Trump on a regular basis," he revealed, "and the president loves winding these people up.  When people in the intelligentsia and glitterati tear him a new one he thinks he must be doing something right.  Out in the hinterlands there are people who are loath to say anything but who will vote for him again."

Bill admitted that it has become difficult to be totally balanced when it comes to covering the president:  "Analyzing Trump is harder for me now.  When he used to say something dopey like he did about John McCain, I could call him out on it.  But now I feel sorry for him.  The press reportage is so dishonest, the vitriol is so disgusting, that my instinct now is to almost take his side.  These people are not going to like anything he does!"

Before heading back to his compound with those Mint Milanos in hand, Miller issued a warning:  "When someone does a play in Central Park where a man dressed as President Trump is assassinated like Julius Caesar, that's just crazy.  They've gone crazy and it is moving towards violence.  I don't know why everybody doesn't step up and say this has to end!"

After Dennis departed, Bill reminded listeners that he and Miller will continue their "The Spin Stops Here" tour later this year with shows in Baltimore, Tampa, Las Vegas, and Anaheim.  This weekend's upcoming shows on Long Island are sold out, proving again that procrastination is never a good idea, especially when it comes to copping tickets to see Bill and Dennis in person.

One final note:  All of Bill's tweets that he pounded out in real time during Tuesday's Jeff Sessions hearing are available here on bor.com.
