O’Reilly on Jeff Sessions, Transgender Military Ban and Obamacare

In today’s action-paced No Spin News, Bill breaks down the situation with President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Obamacare repeal effort, and some other stories you won’t see anywhere else. Dennis Miller also joins the program to discuss the current state of politics in America.

Bill Says It Would Be Foolish For Trump to Fire Sessions

Bill began by saying the tension between Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Trump is a bigger story than the Obamacare repeal effort.

President Trump has repeatedly voiced his displeasure with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, saying Mr. Sessions should not have recused himself in the Russia investigation and should be more aggressively investigating leakers.

Bill said President Trump should not fire Mr. Sessions

“It would be foolish for President Trump to fire Mr. Sessions on a number of levels,” Bill said.

Bill argued that firing Sessions would cause many Republican Senators to turn against the president.

“They like Sessions, the Republicans do,” Bill said. “They don’t believe this is a legitimate way to go about handling the attorney general. I know that for a fact. So if President Trump fires Sessions, he’s going to lose his support in the Senate across the board.”

Bill suggested the best course of action for President Trump was détente with his attorney general.

Jeff Sessions says he’ll be tough on leakers, and Bill applauded his tough actions on sanctuary cities. Bill said it simply would be bad for the country if Sessions is fired.

One way for Sessions and Trump to improve their relationship, according to Bill, would be for Sessions to inform the president he was investigating the Clinton Foundation for its ties to the Russian government.

Bill also predicted that in the end Trump wouldn’t fire Sessions, but Bill acknowledged he could be wrong.

Obamacare Repeal effort

Once again, the Senate today failed to repeal Obamacare. Bill called the efforts “a ruse,” and said not to expect anything to happen in the Senate with healthcare any time soon.

Dennis Miller on Obamacare and Politics

Bill next brought Dennis Miller on the program discuss a sound bite from John McCain where the war-hero Senator said that politicians sometimes must ignore pundits and experts for the benefit of helping the people.

Bill asked Miller if McCain had a point.

“I see nothing to that,” Miller said. “I think that Senate chamber and the House has brought this country … well I think it’s crept over into the abyss.”

Miller noted that what McCain did in the Vietnam War was nobler than anything he’ll ever do, but thought the senator was expressing a silly sentiment.

Bill acknowledged that there are some “craven” politicians that only vote based on how it will affect their electoral chances. But he also acknowledged that some in the media contribute to a toxic political environment.

“I think there are ideologues on television and radio who play to a certain crew to make money and who are kind of vicious sometimes, going after people with whom they disagree,” Bill said. “And I think that McCain believes that has an effect on people’s voting.”

Miller and Bill then discussed whether or not they’ll ever see Republicans and Democrats cooperate during their lifetimes.

Miller said he didn’t think so, and reminded the audience how the Democrats rammed Obamacare through Congress without the input of Republicans.

Bill was slightly more optimistic.

“In the short-term, certainly not,” Bill said. “If the folks, we the people, start to get fed up, as they were, you know, enough of them were to get Trump in the White House, but it gets more and more and more, then you might see a little bit of cooperation.”

Miller then said the only way to get something done in Congress were if one party were to win 60 Senate seats, which would end the possibility of a filibuster.

President Trump Bans Transgender Individuals From Military Service

President Trump today announced that the U.S. government will no longer “accept or allow” transgender individuals to serve in the U.S. military, citing potential medical costs and disruption to military goals.

Bill said the policy would likely be blocked by the courts, and that eventually transgender individuals would be able to serve in non-combat roles.

Bill also criticized the Obama-era policy of using taxpayer money to pay the medical costs for transgender soldiers to transition from one gender to another.

“We shouldn't have to pay for this,” Bill said. “That’s a personal decision. And we shouldn’t have to pay for it.”

37% of California Households Have No Cash in the Bank

Bill next discussed a new report from the D.C.-based group Prosperity Now that says 37% of California Households have almost no savings.

“They’re living paycheck to paycheck or welfare check to welfare check,” Bill said. “They don’t have any money. So if anything happens, whether they have a debt or whatever, they can’t pay it. Many of these people run up big credit card debts.”

Bill also noted the study says over 60% of whites own homes, compared to less than half of people of color in California.

The racial breakdown of households without savings breaks down as follows: 61% of Latino households, 57% of black households and 28% of white households.

“If you are in that circumstance, you are going to have to depend on the government sooner or later, probably sooner,” Bill said. “You’re going to have to. And that takes out your power … if you don’t have any money, individual power is nil. You're dependent on somebody giving you enough to survive. This is what it is.”

Bill surmised that California is a prosperous place overall, but is “a place where “destitution rules in the minority precincts.”

California is one of the highest taxed states in the country, and Bill said “this is the price you pay for a welfare state. A vicious cycle.”

“I think America is the land of opportunity,” Bill continued. “But if you don’t have any money, you’re not going to get much opportunity.”

Bill also said this is another example of why President Trump needs to pass a middle class tax cut.

Premium Member Mail

Bill next responded to emails from Premium Members. Here are the highlights:

  • Bill reiterated that it would be a bad thing for both President Trump and the country if  he fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
  • Bill said he wasn’t that upset that several members of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s legal team are donors to the Democratic Party. If he seeks indictments of Trump campaign officials, he’ll need hard facts to prove his case.
  • Bill pointed out that it’s not the job of the attorney general to protect the president, but to enforce the law. Bill endorsed a robust investigation of the Clinton Foundation because it’s still in operation, but said he didn’t think the DOJ to look at Benghazi or Hillary’s emails again.
  • Bill said that America would have a tough time winning WWII today because of the snowflake culture, but that it was almost irrelevant because no war would be fought like that again due to technology.
