Big Night For Cruz
Guest: Charles Krauthammer
The Factor began when its analysis of the vote in Iowa.

"You know the TV media goes nuts over these early political events, and there's a lot of nonsense being spouted. Talking Points would like to set the record straight tonight.
Ted Cruz won the vote largely on the strength of religious Republicans and a well-organized campaign. The senator had to win and he did, although Dr. Ben Carson is now accusing his campaign of dirty tricks.

"Donald Trump ran second and his snub of the Fox News debate hurt him. Here's the proof:
Late deciding Iowa voters broke for Marco Rubio 30%.,Ted Cruz, 25%., Trump, 14%.
Had Mr. Trump showed up and done well in the debate, the late deciding numbers would not have been that way in my opinion.

All the other Republican candidates got hammered, including Jeb Bush, who spent some time and money in the state.

On the Democrat side it was a tie. But the tie means absolutely nothing. The reason is Hillary Clinton will win the nomination even though Bernie Sanders is saying stuff like this:

SANDERS: "Thank you so much.  As you know, we just got in from Iowa where we astounded the world! ((LOUD APPLAUSE)) And now, in New Hampshire, we'll astound the world again!  ((LOUD APPLAUSE))"

"Talking Points has a message for Senator Sanders - nobody was astounded, Bernie, all the polls said you would compete very well in Iowa."

Charles Krauthammer then joined the discussion, offering a slightly different take on the Iowa caucuses.

Krauthammer said that Trump wasn't a populist, and not a conservative.

"If you add up the conservatives, Cruz and ... Rubio, the conservatives, they took 51 percent of the vote," Krauthammer said. "The populist took 25 percent. That's why Trump lost."

Krauthammer and The Factor also agreed that the only way Sanders could win the Democratic nomination is if Hillary Clinton is indicted over housing classified data on her private email server.

"The most important primary on Democratic side is not Iowa, it's not New Hampshire - it's the Comey primary, Comey being the head of the FBI," Krauthammer said.
Is the Trump Surge Subsiding?
Guests: Andrea Tantaros & Mary Anne Marsh
The Factor asked Mary Anne Marsh if she felt Democrats would rather Trump be the GOP nominee because he'd be easier to defeat than someone like Marco Rubio.

"I think Trump would be much tougher than people think with Reagan Democrats, blue-collar workers," Marsh said.

Tantaros noted that the Iowa caucuses proved that the Republican electorate continues to be attracted to anti-establishment candidates, with Cruz, Trump, and Carson holding down three of the four top spots.

"It was a sharp rebuke of the establishment," Tantaros said.
Dirty Tricks in Iowa?
Guest: Dr. Ben Carson
Ben Carson is alleging Cruz campaign officials took advantage of an untrue rumor that Carson was dropping out of the presidential race.

"I have no idea where they derived such information or why they would not be interested in verifying it," Carson said.

Carson blamed the culture of the Cruz campaign for playing what he calls "a dirty trick," but he said he took Cruz's word that the senator didn't personally know about the shenanigans.

"Well, there are so many people who have said that's just the way it is," Carson said. "It's a cesspool. That's the way politics is ... I don't accept it."
Rush Limbaugh on Fox News Campaign Coverage
Guests: Katie Pavlich & Kennedy
Radio host Rush Limbaugh says Fox News Channel has been especially tough on the Republican candidates because they don't want folks to accuse the network of conservative bias.

Kennedy said Limbaugh's view just shows how many diverse opinions are on the air at Fox News.

"I think there are so many smart, passionate people on the air," Kennedy said. "And I think it's evident any time you turn on one of the shows where there is discussion. You will see people actively engaged with one another disagreeing about politicians whether they are conservative or Liberal Republican or Democrat and we're also in the middle of a huge political paradigm shift. It's hard for people who have been static for a long time to wrap their heads around it and it makes people a little bit uncomfortable, I think that's OK. I think that's actually really good for FOX and it's really good for the political process."

Pavlich disagreed with Limbaugh, saying Fox is a great news organization and "there should be a standard of being harsh on everyone."
Chicago Violence Skyrocketing
Guests: Kimberly Guilfoyle & Lis Wiehl
The Is It Legal ladies laid out the major spending by big time donors, reporting that left-wing billionaire George Soros has donated $7 million to Hillary Clinton and the Koch brothers have donated $3 million to their own super PAC that supports Republican candidates. These donations are legal, and are part of the reason why there are so many political attack ads on television.

The Factor then turned to the violence in Chicago, where murders were up 75% compared to January of 2015.

"This is the real racism - Ignoring a situation where innocent American citizens, mostly black, are being terrorized and the authorities will not stop the terrorization," The Factor declared.
What the Heck Just Happened?
Guests: Greg Gutfeld & Bernard McGuirk
Should Hillary Clinton be getting nervous after her razor-thin victory over Bernie Sanders?

No, says Bernard McGuirk.

"Sean Penn will win a Pulitzer Prize before he wins the nomination," McGuirk mused.

Gutfeld also announced he'll be travelling to New Hampshire to cover next week's presidential primary.

"Interesting thing about New Hampshire, that's where people go to hide," Gutfeld said. "If you've ever watched the Sopranos or Breaking Bad, that's where the villains go to hide out. I think it's perfect for me. I'm small enough, I can hide anywhere."
Factor Viewers Sound Off on Iowa Vote
Factor Words of the Day
Darren Walker, Trinidad & Tobago: "I watched Fox News cover the Iowa vote and believe some commentators were giving excuses as to why Trump lost."

Debby Lynch, Belpre, Ohio: "Yesterday, as I watched the Iowa returns, I kept thinking that I couldn't wait to hear what Bill O'Reilly had to say about it. Is that good or bad?"

Andrea Muller, New York City: "If Trump loses it's because of Fox News. And if Hillary is elected, people will remember that."

Michael Jones, Riverside, California: "Just finished Killing Reagan, and it's the best book you have written, O'Reilly. Thanks for opening our eyes to the real President Reagan."

Gary Evans, Fuquay Varina, North Carolina: "Bill, I have read every book you've ever written!"
Tip of the Day: Good News for The Factor
"We want to thank all of you for making January a big month for the O'Reilly Factor.

"We were the highest rated cable news program in America by far, winning our time slot every single night of the month.

"That is in all demographic categories as well, with the exception of a special political Town Hall one evening.

As you may know, we are in our 20th season, we work very hard to give you an honest, interesting program and we thank you all for responding to that."
