Rudy Giuliani Joins The Factor
Eric began Friday's abbreviated show, which followed a Donald Trump rally in Michigan, with a live interview with Rudy Giuliani. Earlier in the day, the former New York City mayor announced that he had withdrawn his name from consideration to serve as secretary of state. "My main issue was getting Donald Trump elected," Giuliani explained, "not getting a job. I thought there were enough good people for him to pick from and that I was not absolutely necessary. I have a full private life, two businesses to run, and other responsibilities. Some people wondered why I was so passionate during the campaign, and I was passionate because I thought we were going off a cliff and heading in the direction of being a European social democracy. I saw Donald Trump as the person who could change that. He is going to be a great president, he has all the skills and talents of a great president. So I felt that I had done my job. I think he's now down to two or three people and he will make a decision soon." Eric asked Giuliani how he will explain the decision to his many supporters. "They're going to get somebody very good as secretary of state," the mayor affirmed. "Donald Trump so far has not let us down, he has an extraordinary ability to pick good people. This is the best transition I've ever seen, and Mike Pence gets a lot of credit for this."

Returning for a second segment, Mayor Rudy Giuliani turned to the possibility of Mitt Romney will be nominated to be secretary of state. "The president-elect has to make his decision," he said, "and if he selects Mitt Romney I will support him. But I think Mitt Romney went too far in his criticism of Donald Trump. It's one thing to have a 'team of rivals,' but it's another thing to have a 'team of enemies.' His attacks were bitter and personal and maybe I'm too close to Donald Trump to react to it correctly. I feel offended by some of the things he said, he would have to take back some of that. It wasn't the usual political rhetoric."
Reaction to the Giuliani Interview
Eric analyzed Rudy Giuliani's withdrawal with Trump adviser Katrina Pierson and Democratic strategist Adam Green. "He absolutely was a major part of the campaign," Pierson stated. "There were just a handful of us who came out of the gate defending Mr. Trump, we were passionate because we believed in him. Rudy Giuliani was very engaged in helping Donald Trump become president, so it was shocking for a lot of people for him to take his name out of contention." Green theorized that the decision was actually made by Donald Trump. "Rudy Giuliani did not voluntarily step down, he was passed over, and for good reason. If Donald Trump had gone with Rudy Giuliani as secretary of state, it would have been one more betrayal of Trump's own voters. They thought they were voting to take on the corporate and political establishment, but they keep getting more of the same. People didn't vote for Wall Street bankers, but that's what they're getting." But Pierson insisted that Donald Trump is picking the best people available, whatever their background. "He made a commitment to bring on the people he feels are best for the job. That's going to mean business CEOs because Americans are tired of people from academia and politicians put into positions based on ideology. Mr. Trump is going to pick people who will get things done!"
