CBS News: A New Jersey appeals court has concluded that Americans have no Second Amendment right to buy a handgun.
In a case decided last week, the superior court upheld a state law saying that nobody may possess "any handgun" without obtaining law enforcement approval and permission in advance.
That outcome might seem like something of a surprise, especially after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last year in the D.C. v. Heller case that the Second Amendment guarantees "the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation." |

Heck, the midwest isn't the midwest, for that matter. What's with this Northwestern University in Chicago?
Saw on my cable guide, a program about the Northwest Territory. I turned it on, it was about Illinois, when it was the Northwest territory. LOL

Does any PM know the gun laws in Oregon and Washington?
Solid I agree, when I tell people in the east that California is not really a western state they kind of look at me kind of weird. I know they are thinking geographically not culturally like I am.
I then say Idaho then down to Arizona and then east to around North Dakota and down that is the west. That just baffles them even more. I love it. Also the midwest is not the west also.

I wonder what that judge would say when faced with a gun in the hands of a criminal. We could become like England and have our patrolling police armed only with billy clubs. Think he would lecture the poor misguided creature and let him know he's breaking the law.
Just another liberal jerk that wants to make law from the bench. He thinks he knows what's best for us ignorant, stupid little people.

"What about someone who owns guns for sport shooting like skeet shooting or hunting? Ethical hunters (raising hand) certainly are not criminals."
These activities are not illegal when the hunters abide by the law, so I see no problem, but watch out for the kangaroo in the bush with the scoped rifle... :-D
LOL, those darn Colorado kangaroos:-O, They sneek up on ya.
I agree with Sol, different gun "attitude" out here in the west. We don't want anyone on the east or west coast commanding our gun laws here.

I think California has a watered down version of the east coast gun laws. I don't think you can legally carry.
My brother the CHP officer once mentioned something about steps. The gun has to be so many (three comes to mind) steps away. Driving with it in the trunk would be legal; driving with it in a locked glove box would be legal. That sort of thing.
Trouble is, the crooks are not beholden to these laws, nor would they be held to any subsequent law. That's why they're called crooks!

Sol, so true. We are used to seeing people walk down the street with guns strapped to their hips. And yes, even in cities like Phoenix and Las Vegas. Cops are called, they check out the registration card and they let the person go.
Could you imagine how many SWAT officers would be called on someone doing that in the east?
Here, I doubt anyone has a registration card, if it's in full view. I'm sure the police will stop and chat for a bit. However, especially now and until the weekend after Thanksgiving, it's hunting season. All sorts of rifles in their racks of the back windows of trucks. Used to see those rifles more often; it wasn't anything to do with "legalities" that got them out of the window; it was the plethora of people who have no problem smashing a window to steal whatever they want.
I classify California, John, as its own strange world for various things. Gun laws included. I knew a guy that used to live in San Diego. He was going to buy a handgun, so the owner of the shop advised him to join a gun club so that he'd have a place to practice shooting. He bought the gun and couldn't figure out how to get it to the gun club. If he left it in a bag, it was concealed, and he didn't have a concealed permit. So he took the cylinder out, put the gun in a holster and belted the holster around his waist for the walk to the nearby gun club. He was stopped by three cop cars, pinning him against a wall.
California is kind of weird.
