Jesse began Tuesday's program with the ongoing war of words between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton over Bill Clinton's past sexual escapades. Columnist Adriana Cohen and radio talk show host Leslie Marshall opined. "I would not say President Obama abused women," Marshall said. "He took advantage of Monica Lewinsky, who was young, but I wouldn't say it was abuse. And Bill Clinton is not running, his wife is running!" Cohen theorized that Trump is very smart to bring up Bill Clinton's past peccadilloes. "This is an opportunity for Donald Trump to highlight the hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton going after him and accusing him of sexism. Look at Bill Clinton, who has an entire career of sexual impropriety. She is opening up a can of worms that will tarnish her campaign." Jesse reminded Marshall that Bill Clinton has a very checkered history when it comes to women: "Two women have accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault and he preyed on a young intern. He also used his political attack machine to go after women who accused him of things."
For a look at how the Clinton campaign views the verbal duel with Donald Trump, Jesse turned to Fox News correspondent Ed Henry. "They say that this will remind people that Hillary Clinton was a victim," Henry said. "They also say she will focus on the economy and national security, and that when Donald Trump attacks her husband it reminds people that she is trying to stand on her own two feet. On the other hand, behind closed doors they have to be a little nervous that Donald Trump is training his fire on the Clintons. Trump could have crossover appeal with Reagan Democrats and people in the middle."
When he isn't lobbing grenades at the Clintons, Donald Trump has been taking aim at his Republican rival Chris Christie, whom he has described as a failure. Jesse discussed the intraparty feud with political reporters James Pindell and Matthew Arco. "There is no reason for Chris Christie to engage with Donald Trump in the week between Christmas and New Year's," Pindell said. "The big question is what happens in January when you get closer to the New Hampshire primary. Will Chris Christie begin to fire back at Donald Trump?" Arco pointed out that Christie has been surging in the polls in New Hampshire, which could be the impetus for Trump's outbursts. "Trump must see that he has some competition in Chris Christie. This came out of the blue without Christie doing anything to instigate the fight, so Trump must see him as a threat in New Hampshire."
The State Department has actually boasted that one of its top accomplishments over the past year was bringing peace to Syria. Jesse spoke about that howler with foreign policy analysts Richard Grenell and David Tafuri. "The administration has truly accomplished two things in Syria," Tafuri stated. They have provided the most support for humanitarian interests in Syria of any country in the world. They have also set a peace process for going forward, which is important. These are significant accomplishments for the State Department." But Grenell absolutely mocked the State Department's claim. "It's hard to talk about this without laughing, this is such a joke. The State Department tries to put a positive spin on everything and everyone knows that Syria is a disaster. The most that they can say is that there is a plan for a meeting." Jesse also added a touch of ridicule, reporting that the State Department also boasted that it has "set a goal to end poverty."
The Obama administration is reportedly about to deport entire families back to Mexico. Jesse analyzed the strategy with columnist Ruben Navarrette and Jessica Vaughn, a foe of illegal immigration. "This is business as usual for the Obama administration," Navarrette groused, "which has deported nearly 3-million people. Donald Trump has talked about building a wall with a door in it so people can come back, but when Obama sends people out it's one-way. This administration has proven itself to be morally bankrupt and dishonest when dealing with immigration." Vaughan also denounced the administration, but from a totally different direction. "We should all be very skeptical that the Obama administration will ever deport any of the Central Americans who have arrived in this surge. These people never should have been allowed into the country to begin with and they have been a huge burden on communities that have had to absorb them. This administration releases tens of thousands of criminal aliens every year, but we are now supposed to believe that they are going to round up women and children? I don't think it's going to happen, this is all meant to look as though they are serious about enforcement."
Finally, Jesse asked Bill for some advice now that he has a new weekend show on Fox News. "You have to be honest," Bill told Jesse, "and you have to be aware of what the audience is expecting. Craft the show so that it entertains and informs." Bill also urged Jesse to not follow any set script or strategy. "There are times you have to be assertive, but there are also times when you let things unfold. You just have to understand who the audience is and tailor the material toward the audience. This is harder than it looks, but I have to say that you're pretty good ... for your age."
