Wednesday: Crime and Justice in America
The Democrats Move Leftward
"Senator Bernie Sanders has endorsed Hillary Clinton, but the endorsement doesn't really mean much. The Democratic Party has already coalesced behind Secretary Clinton and it's all about voter turnout. If she gets Barack Obama-type enthusiasm, she has a very good chance to win. If she does not, Donald Trump could pull an upset. That's because the Democratic Party has veered sharply left thanks to Senator Sanders. He wants amnesty for all illegal aliens presently in the USA and quasi-open borders. He supports sanctuary cities and opposes Kate's Law. On the economic front, he wants guaranteed jobs for every American and guaranteed wages. That kind of mandate is a violation of the free marketplace, and if the feds start paying mandatory wages, America's economy would collapse. On the crime front, Sanders wants little punishment and believes that providing people with jobs is the solution to violent crime. He rejects harsh mandatory punishments for people who kill, rape, or maim and believes the justice system unfairly targets minorities. There is no question Bernie Sanders is an extremist, so Hillary Clinton has an interesting dilemma. Will she repudiate any of this far-left stuff or will she embrace it? She does have a fallback because the media will not define the real radicalism that Sanders wants, instead treating him like a first-cousin to the Colonel Sanders, a benevolent seller of chicken. In other words, the press does not tell us the truth. Shocking! Talking Points believes Clinton is not as radical as Sanders, but the Democratic Party is certainly heading into the world of radicalism. So the presidential election in November is about much more than Trump vs. Clinton. It's about what kind of country you want. America is in trouble. All the polls say the folks know that, yet the Democrats continue to march leftward. Even for those of you who do not like Donald Trump, that has to be a consideration when you cast your ballot."

FNC's Eboni Williams and Monica Crowley opined on the Democratic Party's turn to the left. "The chasm between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is not as large as some people might think," Crowley said. "When you look at Mrs. Clinton's background, ideologically and temperamentally she is with the Obama and Sanders far left. She became radicalized in the 60s." Williams contended that Hillary Clinton has been forced to shift her ideology. "The Hillary Clinton of the 90s hawkish and reluctant to talk about a dollar amount in the minimum wage. I think Bernie Sanders has made her contort herself to a full-throttle progressive. She's going to run like Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama, and Bernie Sanders." The Factor disagreed, saying, "After the convention she will drift into more moderate precincts because if she runs far left Trump could destroy her."
Demonizing the Police
The Factor welcomed policy analyst and author Heather MacDonald, who has long focused on the intersection of race and crime. She contended that the perception that cops kill black men is a myth. "If the media seized on every video of an officer killing a white person," she said, "we might think there is an epidemic of police killing whites. This is a media-driven phenomenon and I would love to see the media focus on the children whose lives have been lost because police have backed off from the pro-active policing that the media denounces as racist." MacDonald lamented that murders are on the rise in some parts of the country. "In cities with large black populations the rise in violent crime is truly alarming. Who is being killed? Blacks. And who is killing them? Not the police, but other blacks. This is what happens when police back off from the pro-active policing that gave us an unprecedented drop in crime."
Has Obama Been Fair to Police?
FNC's Eric Bolling and Geraldo Rivera also weighed in on race and police. "The president's biggest failing," Rivera began, "has been his failure to deal with the crisis in the urban environment - family breakdown, drug abuse, and so forth. Had he dealt with that with verve and energy we would not be in this tough spot. But I disagree with the premise that police are being demonized unfairly. I bet every single black man has had negative experiences with the cops." Bolling groused that President Obama tends to focus on the wrong problem. "Of the 2,000 shootings in Chicago this year, only nine were perpetrated by police officers! But President Obama talks about Black Lives Matter at a memorial for five dead officers." The Factor added an uncomfortable fact: "African Americans commit violent crimes far out of proportion to every other group, so if you're a police officer maybe you're afraid."
Justice in America
The Factor was joined by Robert Kennedy Jr., whose cousin Michael Skakel was convicted of a 1975 murder. Kennedy insists that Skakel, who served 11 years before the conviction was overturned, is innocent. "If a court doesn't rule that he gets a new trial," Kennedy said, "he will go back to jail. But if they uphold the overturned conviction, a prosecutor will have to decide whether to re-try Michael or try the guys who I found are the real killers. Michael had a difficult life and was put in a very brutal reform school where he was tortured every day for two years." The Factor lauded Kennedy, saying "I admire your loyalty to a man who wasn't very fond of you, and whether you are right or wrong, you are trying to seek justice."
Miller's Musings on VP Picks
Who will Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump pick as their sidekicks? The Factor posed that question to Dennis Miller. "For Hillary it has to be Bernie. That's Bernie Madoff, who would be perfect for her if she can get him out on weekends. The bumper sticker would just say 'Clinton-Bernie,' which would fool the kids. And Trump should nominate the Ocean Spray Cocktail Juice logo, which also looks like a combover. Or he should have a runway show and bring out all the prospects one at a time." When The Factor reminded Miller that it's not permissible to nominate a logo, Miller asked, "Well, what was Biden, for God's sake?"
Racially Charged Poem
A 14-year-old white 8th grader in Georgia won a poetry competition with his poem about 'white privilege.' Fox Business anchor Trish Regan elaborated on the story. "This is a private school in Atlanta that costs $23,000 a year," she reported. "The school is on the progressive side and this kid's parents are on the progressive side. His mother is a political activist and was a delegate to the Democratic convention. We're seeing this all over now, that white males have privileges that others don't." The Factor put forth a very progressive suggestion: "Why doesn't the family send the young man to public school and send the tuition money to the NAACP?"
Viewers Sound Off
Factor Words of the Day
Louis Giglio, Metedeconk, NJ: "It is obvious that Kirsten Powers and Juan Williams are taking positions simply to infuriate viewers. They are acting."

Robert Farmer, Houston, TX: "I was disgusted by Trump's comments about the police-involved shootings in Baton Rouge and Minnesota. He knows nothing about police work, yet is quick to condemn police like Obama."
