Original Iwo Jima Monument Auction 02/22
February 21, 2013

The auction sale of an iconic piece of American history - the original Iwo Jima Monument from 1945 sculpted by Felix De Weldon and based on the photo taken by the Pulitzer-Prize winning AP photographer Joe Rosenthal. The flag raising atop Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima depicts the bloodiest battle of World War II that has undoubtedly become one of the most powerful images of the 20th Century.

For the U.S. Marines, it is a sacred cultural symbol and it is regarded as one of the most recognizable images in the world. The auction will benefit the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.
