The Factor Rundown
The Vilification of Donald Trump
"The primary mistake Donald Trump made in his campaign kickoff speech was speaking too generally about the border problem. Most Mexicans who sneak into the USA or overstay their legal visitation status do so because they are economically deprived. The vast majority of illegal aliens do not commit crimes apart from their immigration offense. But there are big problems stemming from Mexican illegal immigration. The drug cartels down there have corrupted the police and many politicians. Some of the drug organizations have branched out into people smuggling, charging money to get desperate migrants across the border. In the process many, perhaps most, migrant women are sexually molested. Washington knows all this but has turned away from securing the border ever since President Reagan promised to do so after he signed an immigration amnesty in 1986. Mr. Reagan did not keep his promise, and every single president since has failed to secure the southern border. What about the immigrants themselves? 59% of Mexican residents and illegal aliens have less than a high school education, only 4% have a college degree. 57% receive means-tested welfare of some kind. So Trump's analysis is correct. The majority of Mexicans coming to the USA are not achievers in the economic sense. Here is the dangerous part: 71% percent of non-American citizens in federal prisons are from Mexico, and Mexican criminals represent a whopping 16% of all convicts serving time in federal penitentiaries. That is a huge burden on the taxpayer and a dangerous situation for ordinary Americans like 32-year-old Kate Steinle. Last week Kate was walking with her father in San Francisco when she was shot dead on the street for absolutely no reason. Police say 45-year-old Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an illegal alien from Mexico, murdered Kate. Apparently Sanchez has seven felony convictions and had been deported five times, yet he was still walking around the streets. That's because Mayor Ed Lee and the city supervisors refuse to cooperate with the federal government on criminal aliens. The feds asked the city to keep Sanchez in custody; the city refused. Ms. Steinle paid for that irresponsible and unconstitutional decision with her life. San Francisco is a sanctuary city, and violent crimes committed by criminal aliens have happened before. The family of Kate Steinle is asking for calm, not vengeance. But Talking Points is not as charitable. The mayor and city supervisors are directly responsible for her death and the Obama administration is complicit. The Constitution demands that the federal government protect Americans from foreign intruders. That responsibility is not being met. And if you point that out, as Trump did, you are a racist, a piñata for the open-border crowd to bash. The fact that a felon could be deported five times and still be walking around should shame Congress. Where is a law that says if you are deported one time and come back you serve five years in prison? That legislation should be called the Kate Steinle Law. Talking Points is disgusted with the cowardice of our officials, from the crazy left San Francisco people to the president and Congress. Most of them are rich folks who could not care less about the chaos out of control criminal activity south of the border is creating here. The poor people sneaking in here to paint your house are not the problem. The cowardly politicians who will not uphold the law and the Constitution are the problem. That's what Donald Trump should have said."
Analyzing Talking Points
Juan Williams and Mary Katharine Ham evaluated the Memo and the immigration situation. "The politicians in San Francisco," Williams said, "didn't shoot the gun. This guy is a drug addict and obviously a disturbed person. It makes us safer to have sanctuary cities - immigrants report crimes to the police without having to worry about being deported. And native born Americans commit crimes at a higher rate than illegal immigrants!" But Ham contended that San Francisco officials were dead wrong in this case. "They are certainly partially responsible when you have a guy who has been deported five times. That is partly the system failing the people of San Francisco and it speaks to what many Americans have a problem with. They agree reform needs to happen but they don't trust officials because they have been failed many times."
Immigration Becomes a Hot Topic
Now that Donald Trump and the murder in San Francisco have focused renewed attention on illegal immigration, The Factor asked Karl Rove how the issue might play out in the presidential race. "The media and Democrats will force Republicans to answer for what Donald Trump said," Rove predicted, "so every should be prepared to be asked about this. Most Republican voters see Trump as a 'sideshow,' but Republican candidates should treat him with respect and wait for him to draw himself down by making mistakes. They should also emphasize what they would do about immigration and never say Donald Trump's name."
Failing to Defeat ISIS
President Obama visited the Pentagon Monday for a briefing on the fight against ISIS. The Factor also received a briefing from Fox News analyst Brit Hume. "I don't think this visit to the Pentagon heralds a new strategy," Hume theorized, "but there were some stepped-up air attacks over the weekend. They hit ISIS' headquarters city in Syria and blew up some bridges. The administration is eager to have it known that they did some damage." The Factor groused that the Obama administration is essentially engaging in a charade: "ISIS remains a terrible problem for the world and a new strategy is needed to defeat them. But everybody knows that President Obama does not want a confrontation with ISIS that will defeat them."
Krauthammer on Sanctuary Cities in America
Charles Krauthammer joined The Factor with his thoughts on sanctuary cities and the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco. "You would have thought we got over this notion of localities proclaiming their own laws," Dr. K surmised. "Sanctuary cities are a disgrace - it's clear that immigration law is in the hands of the federal government. But there are dozens of localities abandoning the immigration laws and the federal government doesn't say a word." The Factor concluded, "You could have San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee arrested."
What Do the Folks Know About America?
Jesse Watters spent part of his long weekend on a Long Beach in New York, where he quizzed a few folks about the holiday. The barely-clad revelers had barely a clue about America's founding, the nation from which we declared independence, or even our first president. Back in the studio, Watters summarized his walk on the beach. "After the interviews some people say please don't put this on TV, but others ask where they can see it even after they've gone zero for six. Some people are embarrassed, but they get excited because they're going to be on TV."

Factor Words of the Day
Dan Daniel, Florence, KY: "O'Reilly, your statement that Hillary Clinton is subjected to false accusations is humorous. Why do you think she destroyed all her emails?"

David Bourland, San Carlos, CA: "O'Reilly, you glibly opined that we'll never get to the bottom of the email situation. Why not?"

Donna Beth Ingersoll, Billings, MT: "My father, Dr. McDonald Held, is 105 years old and served in the Philippines during World War II. While reading Killing Patton, he was very impressed."
