Immigration Law
The Supreme Court has ruled that Florida cannot implement its own immigration policy because, according to the Constitution, that is the job of the Federal Government.

And it makes perfect sense.  One state, say Florida, might harshly punish the undocumented while another, paging California, may let everybody in without restraint.

Immigration law is essentially a public safety situation that has morphed into an ideological quest.  Generally speaking, liberals support "humane" policies with few restrictions on foreign nationals, while right-wingers want stringent regulations on who takes up residence in America.

Congress should settle this.  New laws are needed.  You can be humane and disciplined at the same time.  The government has an absolute right to limit entry into the country and to know exactly who is already here.  Thus, migrant registration is a must.  If an undocumented person doesn't register - gone.

But some migrants should get a break. Like the "dreamers"; children who were smuggled into the USA by their irresponsible parents. They are largely innocent of any violations. Congress should help them by passing a specific law providing a pathway to remain here.

But, of course, the Capitol Hill folks want no part of a fair solution.  Might lose them votes.

See you this evening for the No Spin News.
