Bowe Bergdahl to plead guilty
Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is admitting his guilt, bringing an end of sorts to one of the most shameful episodes of President Barack Obama’s tenure.
Bergdahl, who faced an Army court-martial this month, will plead guilty to the two counts with which he’s been charged: desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, the Associated Press reports.
In 2009, Bergdahl wandered away from his base in Afghanistan after months of discontent. He was quickly captured by the Taliban — triggering a massive manhunt in which several soldiers were seriously wounded.
It’s not known whether the guilty plea is part of a deal with prosecutors, or part of an appeal for mercy (time served, for example) that takes into account the five years Bergdahl spent in brutal captivity.
Bergdahl faces up to life in prison on the misbehavior charge and five years for desertion. Having acted “with deliberate disregard for the consequences of his actions,” as prosecutors charged, a stiff sentence would not be uncalled for.
He’ll probably get 10 years in prison, or something in that range. They most likely make some kind of deal with his attorneys that if he pleads guilty he won’t get a life sentence.
VP Pence leaves NFL game in protest
Vice President Mike Pence went to see the Indianapolis Colts play in his home state – and he later left in protest after players did not stand for the national anthem.
Pence traveled from Las Vegas to his home state Sunday to watch the Indianapolis Colts play the San Francisco 49ers. At least 20 members of the 49ers -- the team that started the anthem protests -- knelt during the anthem, leading to the vice president's departure.
"I left today's Colts game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem," said Pence in a statement afterward.
Right away the far left which wants America denigrated is calling this a “stunt” by the Vice President. Pence went into the game knowing that he was going to walk out. I believe that the 49ers are such an out of control team that he knew something was going to happen. Why stay in a stadium where our country is being disrespected? Now since the 49ers have no wins, maybe the owners and coaches want to sit the team down and tell them to focus on playing football instead of protesting the flag and our soldiers.
These protests are getting to be fewer and fewer because team owners like Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys who has said the Cowboys will bench any player who 'disrespects' flag.
