The first thing I did was schedule the snowplow guys to come shovel my driveway tomorrow – which is always important.

Next I had to set up getting food delivered. I’m not a good cook – and with the snow potentially closing restaurants, I wanted to make sure we had food for the day.

The snow doesn’t stop Holly. She likes the snow – and I have to still walk her a few times a day. So, I made sure I had all the right attire ready to go. I got my boots, heavy jeans, and my jacket all lined up.

Lastly, I had to get my car ready to go. It’s important to check your tires and make sure you have enough gas in case of emergencies.

I’m telling you all this because it’s always smart to plan ahead when you know something is going to happen. If you make a game plan, you will always be better prepared.

Typically, the O’Reilly household has a traditional Christmas. We normally go to mass on Christmas Eve, have a nice dinner, then open the gifts Christmas morning.

This year is a bit different. Nobody can fly and everyone is scared to go to church. I’m not going to force anyone to go to church.

I don’t even want any gifts this year. There isn’t anything I want. I’m not a materialistic guy anyway – so I ask people to make a donation in my name to any noble cause they like.

Tons of people are sending me cookies and brownies – which as you know, with my blood sugar, I can’t eat. So, I must confess, I am re-gifting some of it to people who don’t have much.

So, as you can tell, this Christmas is different. It’s a Covid Christmas. Try not to get involved with any big parties, it’s just not worth it.

Have a nice Christmas, but a calm Christmas. No arguing. I hope you all have a nice Christmas.

I can’t listen to all those Christmas radio stations. It will drive you crazy after 30 minutes – plus the commercials are far too long.

So, what I do is go onto the internet, usually YouTube, and punch in Johnny Mathis Christmas songs. He’s the best. He sings O Holy Night better than anyone.

Nat King Cole is another one. Everyone knows his music. He is an absolute legend. All of his Christmas music is fabulous. Be sure to check him out.

The Carpenters do an incredible Christmas album. I have told you before that I believe Karen Carpenter has the best female pop voice ever. The clarity of her voice is beautiful.

If you really listen to these three, really take the time to appreciate their music, it’s simply magical. It also relaxes you – it’s perfect music to fall asleep to. So, I hope you take the time to check them out.

Since I order so much stuff over the phone, I made a new rule. If the person taking my order doesn’t get it right in 2 tries, I cancel my order.

Number 1, you need to have a good doctor – someone you like and can get on the phone. This is very important.

Number 2, you need to have a good lawyer. Again, this should be someone you can get on the phone and who cares about you.

Number 3, if you own a home, you need a good handyman. Every day in my home, something new is falling apart.

Number 4, if you believe in God, you need to have a cleric you can trust. This is important because moral questions arise all the time.

If you aren’t religious, it’s smart to have a counselor, or someone professional you can speak to about personal issues. Talking about personal stuff with family can easily get out of control.

Since getting into this routine about 10 years ago, I haven’t had any problems with my teeth at all. Not a single cavity or gum issue.

Even with healthy teeth, you should still visit the dentist once or twice a year. It’s smart to get a checkup.

Finally, a good dentist makes all the difference. Read reviews and speak directly to the dentist before getting work done – this way you know what you’re getting.

I finally made a decision about 24 hours before logistic issues kicked in, which gave everyone on my staff enough time to adjust.

So, make your decisions. Things tend to clarify the closer you get to the deadline, so take your time – but not too long. Be smart about it.

So, I suggest buying the clothes you want one size larger than you normally get. Unfortunately, many clothing manufacturers are making clothes smaller – they’re skimping.

I used to wear XL shirts, but now I’m an XXL because so many of the shirts were too small. I’m not that big of a guy, but now I buy 1 size up.

You need to take the temperature of the person you are speaking with - find out if this is a reasonable person and if they want to hear your point of view.

So, if you’re speaking with someone who doesn’t want to debate, they just want to spout off – listen politely for about 30 seconds and just run off.

I won’t even deal with anyone who won’t stand up for our country. It’s not worth it to try with these people.

Political speech can hurt you, so you must be careful in these days. Keep that in mind and be aware of who you’re speaking with.

The first novel is 'Celtic Crossing.' The book is written by Len Mattano and published Paraclete Fiction. You might check it out.

For all the pet people out there, like myself, there is a book titled 'Pet Care Givers and Families' by Robert Berkelhammer. If you like pets, you will certainly want to read this one.

The third book is a children's book titled, 'Max and the Red-Haired Dragon' by Amos Knoll. This book has great illustrations that you and your kids will enjoy. Some of the proceeds go to organizations that help kids, so you can check it out here on Amazon.
