The swamp strikes back! The failure of the Republican health care bill in the senate is a vivid example of how complicated the federal apparatus really is.
Four GOP senators essentially derailed the attempt to sweep Obamacare into the dust bin of history: Rand Paul, Susan Collins, Mike Lee, and Jerry Moran of Kansas.
Ms. Collins should switch parties as her liberal views on income redistribution and Planned Parenthood are way out there. Mr. Paul is a contrarian who will rarely compromise. Lee and Moran are very conservative and object to compromise as well.
The result is a huge victory for the Democratic Party which stayed united in the swamp. Even though Obamacare is putting a big hurt on millions of working Americans, the democratic congressional leadership is fierce and feared. If a democrat in congress defies the leadership, their reelection money will dry up.
President Trump deplored the defeat in a number of tweets this morning saying a new health care bill will rise. Don't bet on it in the short term. The President's power over his party is not strong enough to consolidate votes. Draining the swamp will take immense power.
All in all, a down day for the country as a failed health care system will continue.
