O'Reilly: The Future Shock in the Tax Realm

Bill O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo is BACK!

O'Reilly is on Newsmax TV analyzing Bernie Sanders' Townhall on Fox News. Why did he do so well?

O'REILLY
: Hi I'm Bill O'Reilly and this is the Talking Points Memo.

Bernie Sanders takes on Fox News. All right so they had a little town hall meeting on FNC with Bernie Sanders which was a smart move on both sides. So Fox News wants to get out of the "oh we are a conservative network" niche and try to expand its reach. And Bernie Sanders defies the Democratic Party by saying look I'm going to go on and spread my message of socialism wherever I want and you guys are afraid to do it so you know I'll be considered courageous.

So you'll remember the Democratic National Committee said well we're not going to let Fox News have any debates. This is foolish.

So Sanders shows up last night and that two and a half million people watch which is a little higher than the audience from 630 to 730 is on FNC every day. And he's there with two moderators Martha McCallum and Bret Bair and about I don't know Luta 20 people most of whom like Bernie Sanders. So you've got to figure they mean some kind of deal that they had his people in there, at least some. So the debate itself wasn't really a debate. That's a wrong word.

The interview on Bernie Sanders allowed the senator to basically say whatever he wanted to say unchallenged because the moderators couldn't be perceived to be hostile. Now, I'm watching this and I'm going boy this is just great for Bernie Sanders because the man has been on the campaign trail now for four years.

And he's got his rap down and he's heard these questions before and whatever you say to him he's going to... you know and that the new thing is that he's a millionaire twice over because he wrote a book and got a lot of money for the book.

And the reason he wrote a book was because he ran for president and he's a star because he ran for president which tells you why 19 Democrats are running for president, they want to be millionaires too. They want to get books and lectures. They know, most of them obviously you know they're not going to win. Bernie Sanders is not going to be the brains in the United States. He won't even get the Democratic nomination. Mark my words.

OK so Sanders then is confronted with Miss MacCallum and Mr. Bair both seasoned journalists, who ask him predictable questions that he knows are coming and he knows the answer to. He's got them rehearsed. So I'm sitting there going what good is this? We've heard Bernie Sanders' rap for five years now.

He's a socialist.

He wants everybody to have a level playing field. He wants Medicare for all. He don't really care how much it costs. He wants heavy taxation on the affluent and corporations. But here's how you handle Bernie Sanders. And he would never come up against me in a million years because we gave him the opportunity. Never.

Say hey senator... can you explain to me because I'm a simple man, not nearly as smart as you are. Why the economy today in America under Donald Trump is so successful? So many people working and wages rising after eight years of Barack Obama not rising. I wouldn't throw in Barack Obama thing but you know so many people working wages rising. Why do you think that is Senator?

Now there is a question that gets away from his rehearsed answer. See. He's got, he can't say it's not good. That's a lie. And if it is good why is it good? What is propelling the economy? The answer obviously is the corporate tax cut. Corporations as predicted have more money to invest and hire people and expand. That's why but that's what Bernie Sanders wants. He wants higher taxation so corporations wouldn't expand.

See that's where that question leads. Now that's a worthy discussion. That's what should have happened. And it's simple. So why doesn't it happen more? I'm not going to disparage my peers on television news. The newspapers forget about it, they're not going to give you an honest play no matter what. But television as you can see with your own eyes. And I'm not going to disparage them but I will tell you this... very few people think anymore.

You don't see Mike Wallace, the late Mike Wallace. You don't see that anymore. You see a bunch of people who ask the same questions. Most of them have an ideology on display. They're not thinking.

That is the Talking Points Memo. I'm Bill O'Reilly for Newsmax reminding you that Bill O'Reilly.com has snappy and honest commentary every day.
