By Bill O'Reilly
A front-page article in The New York times on Thursday proclaims that U.S. operatives are now on the ground in Libya, as well as British commandos and French military personnel.
Of course, "The Factor" reported this one week ago with Colonels Hunt and Shaffer on the program. We were far ahead on this story.
We also nailed the Japanese nuclear situation while many other news organizations ran wild with hysteria and speculation.
Now, does anybody out there know Ted Koppel? If you do, please call him up right now and tell him to knock off his absurd contention that cable news doesn't cover the news. I have a beef with Koppel because he is misguided. We broke the Libyan story. "The Factor" broke it. Not "Nightline," not "Frontline."
On another front, we have been discussing American exceptionalism. My newspaper column this week, available now on BillOReilly.com and in the New York Post and other fine newspapers, talks about the USA being a noble country. But some Americans don't want us to be exceptional. They want us to do nothing about righting wrongs throughout the world.
Again, the USA cannot be exceptional if we sit it out. We can't do everything. We can't save Africa. We can't invade North Korea or Iran. But when we can save lives without damaging the country, we should.
And finally, here's something really exceptional. We have reached the $1 million mark in our campaign to help the Fisher House military charity. The clothing company Geoffrey Beene graciously donated the final $50,000. They are patriots, and you should know that.
The campaign came about after Geraldo, Col. Hunt and I visited Walter Reed hospital last December. While there, we saw scores of little kids interacting with their grievously wounded dads and moms. To see that was heartbreaking. The families of our wounded warriors often have little money. They can't afford to fly to Washington and other hospitals around the country to be with their loved ones while their injuries are being treated and rehabilitated. So I knew I had to do something.
The opportunity arose when I interviewed President Obama on Super Bowl Sunday. I took my notes, had the president sign them and offered them for a $500 donation to the Fisher House, a charity Mr. Obama actually recommended. I thought we would raise a half-million dollars, but "The Factor" audience is so extraordinary, so exceptional that we have now reached a million dollars plus.
"The Factor" audience is the best. I knew you guys would respond, and you have. The Fisher House now has more than $1 million that it did not have two months ago.
And that's "The Memo."
Pinheads & Patriots
Speaking at a dinner in Washington Wednesday night, liberal Congressman Anthony Weiner said this:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
REP. ANTHONY WEINER, D-N.Y.: This is really a huge thrill for me. This is all being broadcast on C-SPAN 3, so tens of Americans will see this. Down at the C-SPAN -- down at the CNN table they're saying, "Tens, what's their secret?"
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Whoa! So is Mr. Weiner a pinhead or a patriot for that quip? Please vote on BillOReilly.com.
Wednesday night we showed you a bizarre display on "Fox & Friends."
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GRETCHEN CARLSON, CO-HOST, "FOX & FRIENDS": As Erica Kane on "All My Children," she has done tons of kisses on the air. But how do you really do the soap opera kiss? Well, she's going to show us right now with Brian.
BRIAN KILMEADE, CO-HOST, "FOX & FRIENDS": Is that true?
SUSAN LUCCI, SOAP OPERA STAR: It depends on the guy how the kiss is really going to go.
DOOCY: Five seconds.
LUCCI: You just really -- you can even go like this.
DOOCY: Four, three, two...
CARLSON: Aah! What a way to end the show! Log on to FoxandFriends.com for more making out.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Whoa! Now, 60 percent of you say Kilmeade and Ms. Lucci are patriots for that exposition; 40 percent believe they are pinheads. By the way, Kilmeade is resting comfortably after that ordeal. He was rushed to the hospital.
