The inside story on Al Franken is that the minority leader in the senate, Charles Schumer of New York, made it clear to him that if he did not resign, his own party would disown and perhaps even undermine him.

Franken thought he might ride out the groping allegations against him, but Schumer made it clear that was not an option. 

As I stated last night on the No Spin News, the upcoming strategy of the Democratic Party will be to brand itself as the protector of American women.  As part of that plan, President Trump will undergo a massive attack stating that he abuses women.  He’d better be ready for it.

Chuck Schumer is a very tough individual.  Democrats fear him.  That’s why republican sponsored legislation gets absolutely shut out in the senate most times.  If a dem senator defies Schumer, he or she will pay a steep price. 

On the GOP side, Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell does not wield that kind of power.
