It’s officially Labor Day in the USA. While many Americans view the date as the official end of summer, its real history is far more interesting.
Labor Day originated in the late 19th-century American labor movement as an organized push to secure reasonable working hours, fair pay, and safer conditions during the height of the Industrial Revolution.
As I chronicle in my book “Confronting Evil”, millions of Americans, including women and children, toiled in hellish conditions on factory floors, oil fields, and rail yards.
Many were paid a dollar a day, while their bosses in Manhattan earned millions.
It was the heroic Teddy Roosevelt who finally sued the Robber Barons and put an end to these exploitative practices.
So, take a moment this Labor Day to celebrate the American worker.
The engine of this country.
