Tried to watch a bit of cable news yesterday but couldn't get engrossed. Late afternoon programs, languid pacing, nothing new on the fact front.
Not going to mention the anchors because disparaging comments get us nowhere. I will tell you I sampled CNN and Fox News.
CNN was doing presidential politics, but the panel, that network loves panels, had nothing new. Biden's in trouble, Trump's Hitler. The usual.
On Fox, it was Gaza. This might happen. Wait, that could occur. What about the hostages? On and on. Not a learning experience.
The other day, I looked up my ratings on the O'Reilly Factor for the first quarter of 2017. In the ages 25 to 54 demographic, I delivered more than 700,000 viewers at 8 pm. Now the delivery is around 240,000.
That's obviously a big drop. The other cable outlets are far lower. The primary reason is predictably, nobody wants to get into trouble with all the cancel culture surveillance out there.
To succeed on the national level, TV performers must have a bit of daring in them; they must be willing to shake things up.
Not happening these days, at least not much.
And so the once Golden Goose is dead and buried. Nothing lasts forever, with the possible exception of boring television.
See you this evening for the No Spin News.
