As the summer heats up, the hot air coming off cable TV news doesn't really help anyone. Pundits are saying Donald Trump, Jr. colluded, conspired, and even committed treason by taking a meeting with a Russian civilian during the presidential campaign but before the Russian hacking became public.
It appears to me that Trump, Jr. was simply trying to get dirt on Hillary Clinton. So he took a meeting set up by a British PR guy - a man claiming "sensitive" information was in play. Trump, Jr. was enticed.
The whole thing turned out to be bull.
If I were in a political campaign, I would have explored the avenue offered and most any political person would do the same. However, I would have not attended the meeting myself if my name was Trump. Surely the 39 year old son of the candidate knows how many people would exploit his family if they could.
And then later, when the Russian hack story broke, I would have mentioned the meeting and false promise - which Trump, Jr. did not; major mistake.
No laws were broken so this story will subside until Trump, Jr. is called before a congressional committee. Then the hot air front will swoop in again.
