Watching Anthony Fauci repeatedly invoke the Fifth Amendment on Wednesday brought to mind the 1980 song by Queen:
‘And another one gone, and another one gone, Another one bites the dust.’
It was striking to see the hollow shell of a man once considered by many to be the most trusted person in America, a living, breathing hero. Just consider some of this praise:
Ana Navarro, ABC: ‘You’re like the holy spirit.’
Joy Behar, ABC: ‘He’s out there saving the country.’
Eddie Glaude, MSNBC: ‘He may be the savior of the republic.’
Lawrence O’Donnell, MSNBC: ‘No one has talked tougher directly to Donald Trump.’
Oh wait! Those sycophantic accolades were directed at Michael Avenatti, the crooked lawyer who was busted for extortion and fraud. Avenatti was an absolute darling of anti-Trump cable channels and was even touted as a presidential prospect by CNN’s reliably-ridiculous Brian Stelter.
But back to high praise for Dr. Anthony Fauci:
Julia Terruso, Time: ‘A new national star.’
Michelle Goldberg, NY Times: He is ‘magnetic.’
Sen. Elizabeth Warren: ‘That’s my kind of man.’
Jimmy Kimmel, ABC: ‘He does battle daily with the forces of MAGA.’
Never mind! Those folks were describing Graham Platner, the Nazi-tattooed ‘oyster farmer’ whose Senate campaign in Maine soared like a rocket and then crashed and burned.
What do Platner, Avenatti, and Fauci have in common? They all did battle with Donald Trump, thus enshrining themselves as secular saints to the ‘progressive’ left. But no one was ever idolized like Fauci. You’ve seen the hosts on CNN and the former MSNBC lauding him as a truly great man, the embodiment of scientific inquiry and honesty.
The not-so-good doctor ate it all up, of course, but made the fatal mistake of keeping a journal in which he documented the utter joy he received from rubbing virtual elbows with the rich and famous. Much like a nerdy schoolboy who finally gets noticed by the head cheerleader, he reveled in praise from Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, and other celebs. Far, far more damning than being star-struck was Fauci’s apparent lies about COVID and its origins.
The left effortlessly kicked Michael Avenatti and Graham Platner to the curb; they are relics of the past and will never again be invited to share their wit and wisdom. But Fauci will be much tougher to throw overboard. The entire corporate media complex invested heavily in the Fauci myth, elevating him to the highest pedestal in the land. Even after his embarrassing non-testimony, left-wing types went after Republican senators for daring to question this godlike man.
Now we can all sit back and watch as the corporate media try to bury the Fauci downfall, even if he is charged with contempt or other crimes. While he may remind us of a song by Queen, to many on the left he will forever be their divine King.
