The essence of the feud between Sean Hannity and Jimmy Kimmel is the personal attack situation in this country. Imagine how First Lady Melania Trump and her 12 year old son Barron must feel watching the President get smeared everyday of the year. Extremely painful for them.
A few days ago, Kimmel mocked Melania’s accent on his late night show and Hannity called him out. The back and forth twitter war speaks for itself with Kimmel finally waving the white flag yesterday. One footnote: the comedian feels he did nothing wrong in lampooning the First Lady’s accent but he had done the same thing to any minority, he would have been in dire trouble, no question.
Having been on his program a number of times, I know Kimmel a little. I had a lot of empathy for him over his baby son’s health problems, and admired his health care advocacy role as a concerned father. In that capacity, he might think about Barron Trump once in a while. Children should never be collateral damage.
Unfortunately, Jimmy Kimmel has turned ultra-mean over his disdain for the Trump administration and no cheap shot is beyond him. He has smeared scores of people including me in his quest for political relevance. It is not a positive experience to watch him.
I’ve known Sean Hannity for 22 years and while we disagree on some things, I can tell you he’s an honest man who protects his friends. He genuinely feels outrage over the coordinated attacks on the Trump family from a media that is blatantly hostile to anything Trump. On policy matters, Hannity is mostly with the President but so what? That’s what Sean believes.
Kimmel is against Trump on policy but, again, so what? He’s entitled. But when he uses his platform to demean and personally marginalize people, honest analysis should point that out.
I’m sure the liberal crew can pinpoint nasty personal stuff coming from the right but as I always say - you don’t justify bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior. That’s what they do in third grade.
We are at the point now in America where the politics of personal destruction is accepted and nurtured. It has become an industry that is destructive and corrupt. Late night television is part of that industry.
Vicious personal attacks and gutter-snipping should be unacceptable in any civil society. It is not in America. We have lost our way in the public arena.
President Trump should succeed or fail on what he does for the American people. His wife and children should not be subjects of ridicule. Sean Hannity let Jimmy Kimmel know that loud and clear.
Tonight on the No Spin News, we will analyze the President’s poll numbers. Why the big differences? Also, Syria and guns on the rundown.
See you beginning at 7 eastern time.
