Always keep in mind that people believe what they want to believe. Therefore, in a free society, lots of crazy stuff is circulating and some of it is believed.
Let's look at Ukraine. Some Americans are convinced that a "no-fly zone" should be imposed on Russian planes over Ukraine. But who would enforce the zone and shoot at Russian planes that violated it?
NATO countries? I don't know one that would sign up. So it would be left to the US Airforce to engage in combat with Russian MIGs. Does that sound like World War III? I believe so.
What about flying fighter jets into Ukraine so their pilots can fight the MIGs? Well, Poland could do that but doesn't want to because it fears Putin's ire. The Poles suggest they fly the planes to a U.S. airbase in Germany, and then Americans fly them into Ukraine. Sound good to you?
Here's the kicker. Russian pilots would quickly shoot down all combat planes as well as blow them to pieces as they wait to take off. The air war would be over quickly. Ukrainian pilots cannot compete with Russian pilots.
