On Thursday of this week, I addressed some students at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government about the inner workings of the Trump administration. These aren’t kids, but candidates for Master's Degrees in public service.
The questions they asked were sharp and focused mostly on why President Trump does what he does. No gotcha stuff or ideological virtue seeking.
What a relief.
About 40 percent of the students at the Kennedy School are foreign nationals who will return to their countries to seek government jobs. A Harvard degree is still held in high regard around the world, even as the University has been branded left in the USA.
That is Harvard’s own fault, as its hiring practices have been exclusionary; certainly not a good thing when it comes to education.
I saw none of that in my presentation. Yes, I’m sure some ideological students couldn’t be bothered gathering important information, but the young people I encountered listened closely and did not act out.
All in all, a positive experience for your humble correspondent, and I hope for the students. Sincere opinions are important. Fact-based knowledge even more so.
Enjoy the weekend. New column on Sunday.
