Bill paid another Friday morning visit with Glenn Beck on The Blaze Radio. They began with the ongoing, revolting controversy involving President Trump, Chief of Staff John Kelly, and hat-wearing Democratic Congresswoman Frederica Wilson.
"Shame on Wilson," Beck declared, "and anyone who is trying to score a political win from this. We have to stop this, our country deserves better than this!"
Bill agreed and added his own perspective. "You left one thing out," he told Beck, "which is the crux of all the savagery going on in this country right now. And that's the media. The family knew the president was going to call and apparently alerted Congresswoman Wilson, who was then immediately on CNN. That had to be planned in advance, so you can't tell me this was not a setup. That is a huge story, and then the barbarians on the cable news believed every word Wilson said, even though she admitted that she didn't hear the whole phone call. Her credibility is zero!"
Bill continued with his epic rant on today's corrupt media: "The media used this once again to divide the country in a hateful way. The president of the United States is now in a position where 80% to 90% of the media want to destroy him. How can you run a democracy when the media doesn't care about the truth, they only want to destroy the leader? It is shameful and disgraceful and just sickening!"
Beck asked Bill whether he sees a light at the end of the tunnel, some remedy to all the media dishonesty. "I don't," Bill quickly replied. "I've been in this business for 43 years and I try to run an honest program at BillOReilly.com. We try to check things out and verify, but these cable outlets couldn't care less. They are out to get Trump and O'Reilly and Beck and Hannity and anyone they disagree with." Bill conceded that there are also some on the far right who act dishonestly, but added, "it's not even in the same universe or as well-funded as the far left."
The duo then analyzed General Kelly's lamentation that nothing is sacred any more in modern America. "I think most Americans are decent people," Bill observed, "and to most of them there are things that are sacred. They understand that trying to destroy people should not be your main focus. I'm waiting for the backlash against the media and I think it's going to come in the form of ratings, just like with the NFL. The newspaper industry is dead, Newsweek and Time are dead, and the television industry is declining." Beck added a note of concern, saying, "I'm afraid that the backlash will come and then people just won't believe anything or anyone, which is not good."
Beck and Bill then scrutinized Peggy Noonan's suggestion that President Trump may be following the path of Sarah Palin, who went from conservative star to a political nobody. "That's an unfair comparison," Bill stated, "because there is no similarity in their intellect and Trump has a much wider frame of reference. It's true that they are both populists and they both can't stand the media, but if the Palin thing was going to happen to Trump it would have happened already. His problem is that his wording is sometimes imprecise, but Sarah Palin just didn't know that much about her country or its history. So there's a big difference."
Finally, they spoke about a very sordid story out of Wyoming, where a transgender man-turned-woman has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl inside a bathroom. "I don't think you can take one or two situations and make general points," Bill said, "but I will say that the pressure from the politically correct precincts and the ACLU to force public facilities to allow people who were born one gender to go into the locker rooms and bathrooms of the other gender is insane. There is an easy solution – you make a third facility for a transgender to use. Common sense says you build a third facility."
Beck and Bill wrapped things up with the requisite mention of "Killing England," which is flying off the shelves, both those made of wood and the virtual ones. "It is the number one book three weeks running," Bill crowed, "and I want people to read it so they can compare Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin to what we have now. The difference is unbelievable in every way – intellect, character, and courage. Compare them to the weasels we have put into power!"
Bill also assured Beck that he had absolutely, positively sent a free copy of "Killing England," but a very skeptical Beck said it had not arrived and begged for another.
