Almost immediately, President Biden demanded an assault rifle ban because that gun was used in the murders, and Biden had no idea how to stop violent crime other than cliche-ridden declarations.
Forgive my cynicism, but if the hapless President really cared about human life, he'd protect the southern border - the transshipment point for fentanyl and other dangerous narcotics which are killing hundreds of thousands.
The Tennessee trans woman who murdered the six human beings was obviously mentally ill. And evil. No other explanation. In a nation of 330 million, there are legions of dangerous people.
Strictly enforced gun bans might cut down on a few murders but will certainly not solve the violence problem. In fact, nothing will stop violent mayhem, just as nothing will stop mental illness.
Containment is all we can hope for.
Once again, all gun crimes should be federal offenses with strict mandatory punishment attached. As for powerful rifles, individual states should decide the license requirements. New York City is far different than Wyoming.
The second amendment allows for lawful firearm protection. That will not change. But to spare any more 9-year-olds from being shot to death, we have to get much tougher on gun criminals.
