President Trump holding a conference on drug addiction. The issue has now reached a crisis point because thousands of Americans are dying from overdoses. 

Also tens of thousands of innocent children are now being raised outside their homes because their parents are drug addicts. 

The primary reason for the drug addiction scourge is American society. We are far too permissive of drug use in general. President Obama even held sympathy for drug pushers, describing their sometimes lethal activities as non violent crimes. 

Of course, the legalization of pot sends a message to Americans that drug use is acceptable. Yes, there’s a big difference between marijuana and heroin. But the drug world does not set limits. Once you are into that world any drug is available.  

Drug addiction may be a disease but there is a heavy dose of personal responsibility involved. The left will not admit that. Therefore there is a political component to this drug scourge.
