It is clear that the United States is now in a pre-war situation with the country of Iran. This is obviously very dangerous for the world and President Trump will now be tested as never before. He must act methodically and with discipline, not emotion. Here are some things the President might consider:
On Wednesday, address the nation from the Oval Office and explain the confrontation with Iran emphasizing how dangerous the country is and has been. Keep the address short and to the point, maybe about 15 minutes.
Before that, the President should call our main allies, including Russia and China and explain how he is going to assess the situation, also asking for the input from foreign leaders.
After the national TV address, the President should ask the United Nations to call an emergency session to discuss the matter. President Trump should not threaten or be specific about any reprisals. The missile attack on American troops in Iraq is an act of war and most people will understand that. In his nationwide address Mr. Trump can tell the world how dangerous the mullahs are, as well as explaining his personal aversion to war.
This is not a debate for America, the President and his advisors must come up with a plan that will best serve United States and the world. Iran is a danger to the planet; their leadership supports terror and commits gross human rights violations on a daily basis.
Again, discipline and courage, Mr. President. We will see how it all turns out. |
