CNN has a new boss in place and he's not the same as the old boss, with apologies to The Who.
Chris Licht is a TV vet who, up until recently, ran the late-night Colbert program, a far-left chatfest. So, Mr. Licht's political sensibilities seem to be in line with CNN.
But maybe not.
Licht told his new employees last Thursday that the network was not fair and balanced (where have I heard that?) in recent years and because of that has lost the "trust" of many Americans.
That is certainly true. The guy Licht is replacing, Jeff Zucker, ruthlessly pushed
CNN to the left and ordered a scorched earth policy when covering Donald Trump.
All the anchors and pundits went along as their paychecks overwhelmed any sense of journalistic integrity. There were no exceptions.
So how can those same people now turn around and suddenly discover the journalistic principle of fairness?
The answer is they can't.
To be fair, CNN does have a number of correspondents in the field who were not corrupted by Zucker. Therefore, CNN can promote its coverage in Ukraine, for example, as worthy.
But the studio folks remain a problem.
I suspect Mr. Licht will not wipe out his personnel en masse. His personal beliefs have to be liberal or else he would not have worked for the snarky progressive Colbert.
I also believe that CNN will not be making a quick ratings comeback. Too much damage has been done.
Killing the Killers out today. Hope you check it out. See you beginning at six eastern for the No Spin News.
