So yesterday afternoon, I went to St. Patrick's Cathedral, where my parents were married, to say a thank you prayer. The New York Times announced its new bestseller list, and "Killing the Killers" is number one.  That makes 18 number one bestsellers for us.

Back in the year 2000, I was struggling to even get a book published. A very small company put my first one out: "Those Who Trespass." The rest, as they say, is history.

But the book industry has changed drastically over the years because of smartphones. The attention spans of Americans are shortening as eyes consume the simplistic and often dishonest social media. Books are an afterthought.

The true secret to my success in all media is persistence and hard work. We fully realize the corporate media despises us and is constantly in attack mode.

So, we parry by going directly to you, the information consumer, thereby dancing around the villains. Our books, telecasts, and radio spots are authentic and honest.

Millions of Americans value that, and I am grateful to you and God, who blessed me with some talent. That's the challenge for every person, developing your innate gifts.

Thus, the prayers at St. Patrick's. I take nothing for granted. When good things happen, like another number one book, I'm introspective and thankful to a higher power.
