Not a great week for President Bill Clinton as he gets hammered by the Monica Lewinsky stuff 20 years after the fact.  Mr. Clinton is promoting a book and in the past, the media largely gave him a pass on allegations of misconduct throughout his adulthood.

But now that has changed because the press has deeply embraced allegations against hundreds of men so the highest profile guy cannot skate even though the case has been adjudicated.  It’s a bizarre version of Back to the Future.

But to Clinton’s rescue rides the late night talk show host Stephen Colbert, a man who has made tens of millions of dollars pandering to liberal Americans.  Colbert had Mr. Clinton on his program last night and told the besieged former President that he wanted him to “enjoy” the interview.  A series of soft ball questions followed.

Can you imagine what Colbert would have done to a conservative person who had Clinton’s social resume?  It would have been bloody and Colbert would have relished inflicting pain.  There is something very troubling about this.

It is far too much to expect fairness from entertainers or society in general.  That’s not going to happen.  But critical mass has been reached when the American media is so one-sided that any sense of fair play has been extinguished.  If you are a non-liberal and get caught up in controversy, you will be savaged.  If you are a person of the left, the treatment is likely to be far more gentle.
