Police States
June 27, 2025

Remember that nitwit Baghdad Bob, Saddam Hussein's mouthpiece?  In the early days of the Iraq War, old Bob amused the world by proclaiming a great victory for his murderous master.  Then, one day, Bob vanished, literally. No one can find him.

I was reminded of that when I saw the head Iranian mullah on TV proclaiming the great victory his country has achieved over Israel and America.  Apparently wearing a bathrobe, the guy spewed the most preposterous gibberish imaginable.

In Iraq and Iran, there is no information flow.  Those governments do their best to block social media and fact-based reporting.  So, the population is generally clueless.

China is the most intense police state I have ever seen, and I've been around.  Post-war Vietnam, Cuba, communist Romania, Russia, etc., Beijing controls all information. The people know nothing. Correction: they do know any dissident will be harshly punished.

This is Fourth of July week in the USA. We now have a corrupt media, and it's far more difficult to get accurate information than it used to be.  However, we do have thousands of information outlets not controlled by the government.  The average Chinese citizen would be stunned.

So, thank you, Founding Fathers and the Supreme Court.  Yes, the country is flawed. But it's still a beacon of freedom.

Something to ponder when celebrating the Fourth.
