Bill paid his regular Friday visit to Glenn Beck's The Blaze radio network. Beck began by cajoling Bill to talk about the current ratings woes at Fox News.
"I had 20+ good years there and I'm not going to bad-mouth them," Bill said of FNC, "but when you have a change in presentation in any situation you run a risk. The presentation at Fox News has changed." Beck interrupted to remind Bill that FNC is suffering in large part because there is no O'Reilly Factor to anchor the lineup. "Someone didn't have to agree with you," Beck said, "but they still could get a sense of stability. You were always there."
Bill tried to explain his enduring success at Fox News by using a timely example. "I basically did a fact-based presentation, so if you wanted to know facts you were not going to hear on the network news or MSNBC or CNN, you came in. For example, if I had been on the air Thursday night I would have concentrated on O.J. Simpson's narcissism. The guy's a sociopath and a murderer and I would have listed the five reasons he should be in jail forever. But now the presentation at Fox News is done with more equivocation, except for Hannity. That is why I think the numbers are going down."
The conversation took a hairpin turn when Beck asked Bill whether he would prefer to spend time with O.J. Simpson or Sean Penn. "Penn is essentially harmless," Bill said of the actor. "He tries to help the Haitians, he tries to do good stuff, he just allows himself to be used. Sean Penn is the son of a writer who was blacklisted in the 50s and he has this far-left view, but in his heart he's a good guy."
Bill also took a moment to pithily summarize the Russia investigation: "The Russia deal is a contrivance and it's being used by the hate-Trump media and the Democratic Party to make it impossible for him to govern. But if Trump didn't do anything, he doesn't have anything to worry about." Beck put forth a far more ominous take on President Trump's Russia problem, saying, "There was bad stuff going on with his people and he is not making it any better for himself."
Beck then put Bill on the spot, asking whether he would favor an immediate repeal of ObamaCare, with a replacement to come within two years. "The ObamaCare legislation is an income redistribution scheme," Bill asserted. "It's taking money out of the pockets of working Americans and putting it into the pockets of people who don't have a lot. It comes down to Barack Obama wanting to take money from people who have a little more and giving it to people who have a little less. There is no reason to keep ObamaCare, and even the pinheads in Congress should come up with a replacement in two years."
Bill also urged those "pinheads in Congress" to get working, post haste, on a tax reform bill that will become law. He warned, "If Republicans and President Trump can't get a tax cut passed, you can kiss the party goodbye for at least six years." Beck agreed, saying, "If they fail on tax cuts, they're toast and we are toast."
Bill closed by urging all of Beck's listeners to read Sharyl Attkisson's new book "The Smear," in which she documents the underhanded and dangerous tactics used to discredit political enemies.
Glenn Beck and Bill will return next Friday to once again solve all the world's problems, or at least most of them. |
