Pondering Christmas
December 20, 2021

So, it's Christmas week, an excellent time for some introspection (the cliche is "soul searching").  This Covid pandemic continues to disrupt daily life, politics is generally hateful, and the woke thing is destroying societal cohesion.  What would Jesus think of all this since it's his time on the calendar once again?

As the author of the mega-bestseller "Killing Jesus," which is a history of the man - not of the divine presence - I can tell you that Jesus would be sad at the state of the country and the world.

Of course, if you believe scripture, Jesus could banish the pandemic with a wave of his hand. In the book, we don't deal with miracles because there's no historical documentation of them.  But I can tell you this, thousands of poor people walked great distances to see and hear the Nazarene.  There had to be a reason for that.  And the Romans recorded this phenomenon.

So, while Christmas is present, I'd like you to consider one question: “how does a stone-cutter (his profession along with Joseph) from a tiny rural town become the most famous human being who has ever walked the earth?"

Well worth pondering during the days leading up to Christmas.
