While the Trump despisers continue to obsess over the White House renovations and various provocative statements the President makes at least eight times a day, perhaps the most important week in Mr. Trump’s presidency is unfolding.
China is the key to America’s future and probably the world’s as well.
The Beijing government is annoying, no question. Somewhat like Donald Trump, the Chinese leadership cultivates controversy, throwing its weight around in a variety of negative ways.
China enables the war criminal Putin to continue his insane Ukrainian invasion. Beijing terrorizes Taiwan for little gain. The Chinese are building a huge militaristic infrastructure despite having no international threats.
Beijing allows the precursors of fentanyl to be made on Chinese soil. It arms Iran, it denies due process to its 1.5 billion citizens.
These are not nice boys.
But somehow, President Trump might be able to tamp a lot of this down with two exceptions: Taiwan and the Chinese police state.
When I traveled to Beijing last May, I presented a new attitude to the Politburo: “a partnership with the USA for peace and prosperity.”
If the two most powerful countries on earth would work together to mitigate foolish violence and economic chaos, the world would quickly become much more stable. There is no need for Beijing to support the psychopath Putin or to be involved in the narcotics business.
The Chinese chieftains can be persuaded to change tactics if good trade deals are offered.
I did debrief President Trump about my conversations in Beijing and remain hopeful that he and President Xi will come to a positive agreement in South Korea.
This is the most important story right now, by far. Someone alert the media.
See you this evening for the No Spin News.
