Vacation Journal - Woodward & Bernstein's Bubble

Attended a fundraiser in East Hampton, Long Island, last night to save the West Park Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Very worthy cause.  Landmarks like this should be respected, not torn down.

The show was Woodward and Bernstein’s Watergate saga as acted by a bunch of actors, including Robert Downey, Jr.,  Mark Ruffalo, and Nathan Lane.

After the scripted event, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein took the stage for a Q&A.

You know what happened.

Both men despise President Trump, and East Hampton is a leftist hamlet.  That doesn’t bother me at all.  All Americans have the absolute right to form political convictions.

However, the rhetoric quickly became nonsensical with Woodward pounding Trump for his COVID response and Bernstein telling the audience we all live in “a police state.”

Listen, pal, I recently spent some time in China, a real police state.  If you lived there and bashed Xi like you hammer Trump, your neighborhood would dramatically change, if you get my drift.

As for COVID, Woodward should know that President Trump initiated “Operation Warp Speed.”  He made it happen. The vaccines saved countless lives.

Living in a bubble is bad.  I got into journalism because of the Watergate investigation.  But things have dramatically changed in the media world, and Woodward plus Bernstein are not what they used to be.

Too bad.
